Got a chance to hop on a reaper this weekend at the Crescent City Freeride. Props to @Crehderman for being gracious to let people try it out. Keep in mind rider etiquette forced me to not go buck on it and obviously give it back to its owner, even though I reeeallllly didnt want to. I stayed up front in the small stuff so the owner could stay in view of his ski. I know alot of you guys are pole ski riders but dont ever pass up an opportunity to check one out.
Its basically a wide predator. Ive gotta say I think it would have been better advertised as a fixed steer predator rather than a blaster based ski. As soon as it came out and I heard the word blaster I wrote it off. Ive ridden a blaster and it is NOTHING like one. When they were released they looked HUGE in the pictures, they arent. The only thing I can say it shares with a blaster is the sidemounting you have to do when you fall. I didnt fall on it but I watched a few people do it. I frequently rip my wifes (its really mine) chopped, tubby'd, front filled 800 X2 surf slut. The reaper felt very at home to me. The seat is a little tall for my liking but coming from a moto background it felt good to squeeze it between your knees and control the ski. Its a very user friendly ski. The bottom design makes it VERY stable and the nose stays out of the water. When your on an X2 and you land virtually anything tail down you sit and do tail stands like they used to in the 90's as the next set comes barrelling right at you. The reaper litterally says "NO i dont like doing that" and spits the thing right out of the water. It hooks and slashes and turns as sharp and hard as you want. If you let off the throttle it will slide for days untill you tell it to knock it off. Never at one point did the nose catch while surfing or sub out. The ski was equipped with ALL the 701 Goodies and that new QSS steering is somthing special. I got a great look at every product they sell and I was impressed. The ski had a nice 701 in it with a decent pump and trim and it was pleanty of power to do whatever you needed. Did a few TINY re-entries and the rocker on the nose poped her right up and out of the small foam and back into it without a problem. The built in spash lip is really cool too.
Huge props to Krash for this hull. And huge props to 701. Great stuff guys!
If your not into fixed steer stuff you will be and if you think its a couch and it will make you feel better have the owner of whoevers you can ride take the seat off of it and ride the d@mn thing!
