Leaning towards an SXI Pro :scratchchin:

Hmmm.... Well, you guys, giving me awesome advice that I am very appreciative of, have been telling me to get a superjet... Well, they look like great skis, but I have been looking at 750 SXI Pros and hear they can be pretty mean. If I were to buy a superjet, it would be very old, and run (money wise) pretty close to say a 750 SXI Pro 1998 model... I would prefer the ski that will be more recently manufcatured, vs a very old one with a higher chance of engine malfunction. Im not a freestylist, nor a racer. Im a beginner, but I would like a fast ski that IS capable of racing or catching air.

Anyone with an SXI pro... do you have any advice for me or any good things to say about it?

Dont hate me superjetters :tomato:

I dunno how much your budget is, but if your into racing and stuff you can probably pick up a nice 03-up SXR for around 3 or less. The 750's stock have decent top, but have nothing in bottom and mid. If you wanna race, go fast, and hit some surf ocassionally go for an sxr. A superjet, unless u have an 08' wont handle like and SXR but will be a lot more fun to play around on and freestyle and they are generally very reliable. Also I wasn't real impressed with the way the 750 SXI pro handles, nothing special in stock form.

Bottom end power is torque, right? If you wanna punch it and get air off small waves, you want a ski with more torque/acceleration?

And top end is just higher top speeds?

yeah bottom end torque and midrange is want you want for jumping waves, the 750 has almost none. and yeah top end is higher speed, wide open throttle

I have a 92 SX and a 90 650 piped SJ
I let my 13 year old son ride the 750 and I prefer the SJ
I like the SN better than the Kawis I have ridden - sx, sxi, pro and sxr
I even like it better than than the RN skis I have ridden!
Having someone else tell you what is best
is like having someone else try on shoes for you
Ride as many skis as you can,
then gat a yamaha:bigok:

I had fun on my SXIPRO....but I would get a square nose 701 superjet first (not a 650). The problem with both of these skis is that they both need a lot of mods to be decent and are slow tired dogs out of the box. They both need (pipe, impeller, intake grate, rideplate, bars, steering, etc...)

Try to find a used SXR and you will be very happy. Easy to learn on and have great handling and power right out of the box. (the only mod they need is bars). If you decide you want to flatwater freestyle, switch to a modded out sj.

Im a beginner, so I doubt very much I will be hitting the ocean surf any time soon. I may creep over the crest of the wave while people laugh at me, but I will mostly be in the delta with yacht-made waves and general delta chop. (Which can be very large and be white caps just from the wind)

I would be out in the shipping lanes alot.... Yea, the international tankers and larger private yachts stir it up pretty good, and by the end of the day it's like a maelstrom :splatt:

I would REALLY love to have an SXR but im not sure if I can purchase anything more than 2800... I've seen a couple SXRs for about 2800, so I should be o.k.

I have owned Kawis since 1988. Never had any problems, and always had a great time on them. Started with a '87 650sx, then when the 750 came out, I replaced the 650sx with the 1993 750sx (big power gain and better handling). I currently own a '99 750sxi/pro and love it. I mainly freestyle, and the stock power is fine, good low, mid and top end. Mine is modded, you'll grow into the mods. Any boat (Kaw or Yam) you buy, you may want to modify with a head, pipe, prop, etc. that is normal as you excel in time. The people on this site are extremely bias toward SJs, and that's fine, although misleading and confusing for a new guy, who just wants to make a good decision and get out and enjoy this sport. You'll be happy with either. Find a good, clean boat that hasn't been trashed and you'll be fine. Add a bilge pump and a couple handling items like intake grate, ride plate, straight bars and you'll be rockin for a while. Enjoy jetskiing, it's a blast, whether you're on a Kawi or a Yami!

There is a reason most people on here use the superjet as a starting point. You will find lots of people on kawis because thats what they have always been around. So its hard to get a good grasp of things from those people. This is what you should be asking. How many people have gone from a superjet to an sxi? How many people have gone from a sxi to a super jet?

You should also put some value on the fact that the super jet has lots of obsessed experts on this site. Most problems you are going to find have been seen by several people on here.
