Custom/Hybrid LEGENDS build

In my never ending quest to always be a little bit different, I came across a 650sx hull and picked it up for $25. I had bins full of extra parts that I've collected so I figured I'd build something a little different.

I started with a stock 650 sx hull and molded in a 750 pump. I filled the front of the ski and added a SJ handle pole bracket that was moved forward 9 inches from where the stock 650 bracket had been. I'm running an aluminum UMI handle pole on this one.

Had a pair of old foot wells laying in a bin so of course those went in. Next up was the motor. I had a extremely clean set of 650 cases with a near new crank, and a 61x top end that had been opened up to a 760 so it was a no brainer. I had to grind on the cases a bit to get the cylinder to fit.

Then I had to tackle the obstacle of making it fit in the hull and line up. I got a motor mount kit and bought a coupler from ADA to mount on the back of the motor and line up with the Kawi style on the drive shaft.

For the exhaust, I made a conversion plate to mount a Kawi manifold to the Yamaha cylinder and then ran a stock 650 pipe.

Moving on...

Stripped, blasted, repainted, and rebuilt a single carb. Made some graphics on the sticker machine, and laid in some turf.

Being in the film industry, I decided to do a tribute to Old Hollywood, hence the name "LEGENDS"

Still have a few small things to finish up like the rail extensions and turf, bilge, and then a tank tune and shes ready to ride!

Liquid, I've been considering a similar build also, minus the engine swap! weight on the 650sx hull is around 282lbs, compared to 251lbs for a 550SX. There seems to be a lot of weight that can easily be dropped with the 650sx ( plastic rails, tray cladding, fire ext., super heavy handle pole etc.), and you already get the bigger pump, that you don't get with a 550/650 conversion ski, ( at least without spending lots of time/money; still waiting on Rhaas kit)!!!! You don't need an adaptor plate to fit a 650, 750, or even 800 engine either!!!! I think with a few hull mods, weight savings and a healthy engine, these would be a very fun ski without breaking the bank!!!! Good Luck with your build, I'm subscribing and hoping for more pictures and a ride report!!!!!

I've actually cut the hull down so its 6" shorter than my SJ. I will be putting it in the tank this week to tune it. Should be interesting to find out how the 760 cylinder does with that pipe and the smaller reeds.

I'll post results :)
