Its alot different than the old round nose and alot diff than an sj with tubbies. Riding around it feels kind of like an fx1 that doesn't porpose and has killer hookup. It carves hard and doesn't have that feeling like you get with tubbies like they are grabbing the water. The nose stays up through corners and doesn't dig in or turnsub. Its kind of the opposite of an sj with tubbies in that you find yourself pushing the nose down through a corner rather than pulling on the bars to keep it from turnsubbing. The hook up is probably the best part, better than your typical AM prop with an AM intake grate. The rideplate looks like ******** and the stock grips are horrible. I don't understand the rideplate. It has two big holes in it that don't do anything. I hope some 2008 specific parts come out rather than just rideplates with holes in different spots.

Thanks, that is exactly the information that I and many others were looking for.

the rideplate is an old off the shelf part at yamaha. it's a square nose rideplate, they just don't use the rear holes. they had to use it because of the set back pump pushed the rear holes off of the back of the ski so the 4 hole plate from the rn wouldn't work. you'd think they'd make a new plate but I guess they ran out of money.

I guess it's like any other..... "this year's model is totally redesigned " anything.....wait until the second year of production, maybe, so they can work out the bugs/kinks in it?

eh, I can't image any bugs or kinks considering MECHANICALLY it's the same exact ski.

the steering cable has less throw too and the upper part of the handlepole is different. I just bought an older style steering cable for mine.

You need an older style handle pole too. The distance between where the steering plate mount and where the cable mounts is shorter, if you put the old cable on the fx1/2008 pole you won't be able to turn left. I think the best bet for more throw is going to be at the nozzle end. Pro-tec & Riva make exteded quick steer nozzles.

ive got an aftermarket pole otherwise i think you would be right. we noticed that when trying to put an 08 pole on a 99.

Rode again yesterday, there is alot more spray on the 08's. About the steering, with the setback pump it feels like the steering has more leverage over the ski. At low speeds you realy have mash the throttle to make tight turns where as with the old sj you could just kind of ease into it.

Not happy so far. Bought a used 2008 recently, corners well but a lot of nose push at speed and feels darty at high speed. Throttle let off causes nose to dive and spray over bow. Hardest ski to ride well that I have been on and I have owned square nose SJ 1995 and SXR kawasaki and SXI-PRO. This may be great for a hopped up race machine , but for a stocker its not fun. Anybody else feel that way or is it me?

Well it's me too! It's really nice in rough water but on glass it chine seeks at 15 or 20 mph worse than an antique 750 at 45 mph! Tried different ride plates, no help.
Tried a few degrees up trim, did not help either. Now I only ride this ski when it's windy.

I don't own an 08+ but I ride with several guys who do. These are top pro's so I'm not listing any names. I've asked them the same question and even ridden there's. For surf, most of them all prefer the pre 08 hull saying they like how the pre 08's slide on the wave face. I also rode one myself on flatwater and I thought it handled (carved) decently (It already had the steering mods done) although IMO it did not out handle an SXR in the carving dept. I think thats the general consensious of the racing community also as almost no one switched from an SXR to an 08+ hull when they came out.

I prefer my SN Superjet to my buddies brand new 2011 Superjet. His carves much better than mine but that 2011 hull seems to prefer to be ridden much faster like a buoy racing machine and not a freestyle machine. I've only been on it twice so I haven't gotten really used to it.

with the shortened hull (-3") and tubbie destroyers... and pre-08 steering, i find it to be great in the surf. it's somewhat squirrelly (being shortened), but loser than the stock length hull, which makes it more fun.
