Let's talk bars.

New to stand up jetskiing but definitely understand the importance of a good set of handlebars on my other toys.. However, I am curious to the different reasoning behind shapes of bars for stand ups and why. I ride a 2017 SuperJet with only a modified intake grate (worx 228)

Looking at these:

none of those will work with your steering setup. Zero Degree Std Bars will work fine. Thrust, Jetmaniac, Broward Motorsports or Riva can get you a set.

That is a different scenario. You will need one that uses the same type OEM Bushing or have to modify yours for the bearing carrier (just drill 4 holes).

That steering in unreal I put one on my sxr 800 and a buddy put one on his 2017 superjet with minor work both had to drill 4 holes to mount and obviously buy the right size bar from thrust (fat bars)
I also went with there finger throttle witch I love no other mods necessary
To run this steering setup.

Glad to hear it! I am doing exactly that. The plate, finger throttle and bars. I'd rather drill 4 holes instead of having to go through the hell that other people have had to with the short throw cable. Seems like Thrust did an amazing job. So I should order my bars from Thrust? They have both of the bars I listed above. Do you run a flat bar?

Can you elaborate on unreal? I need to continue getting hyped.

I do run flat bars. Going from a stock SXR 800 steering to this adjustable billet steering set up was like night and day so smooth so fast and so adjustable coming from a mountain bike road bike background this set up just made sense to me the way it was designed I'm putting another one on my new build @1natehundred put one on his new superjet with no issues he could probably elaborate more about the super jet than I could we both loved the steering system you will not be disappointed and the sale price is great

It's a matter of fitness for purpose and personal preference.

Aggressive freeriding can put an enormous amount of strain through the steering system and broken handlebars often result. 'Fatter' bars are typically stronger and are able to take more punishment. Different steering systems can alter the required 'bend' of the bars. Some bars are perfectly straight whilst others look like they came off a BMX, yet they're both appropriate for a stand up. Some are shaped to accommodate accessories (such as 'flip' bars).

Most stock 'ski's come with a slight bend in the bars so that looking down from above they look like a passenger aircraft wing. The amount of taper is described in degrees. Most riders opt for a bar with no taper and these are described as a '0 degree' bar. Some people like a tapered bar and can choose from several degrees of taper to suit. Width of bars is also a variable - some like their bars wide (like me), others prefer a narrower bar.

These are just the basics. I'm sure others will add input. If you're just starting out your goal should be to get yourself comfortable on your 'ski. Try riding other 'ski's with differing set ups and see if one of them feels better to you. The first time I rode with 0 degree bars I instantly felt more comfortable and have run them ever since.

_frontend, just know that putting the thrust steering on you will only need a pair of straight fat bars to make it work. The stock chinpad fits, and it is no hassle. You may run into clearance issues with riser bars, however I’m unsure because I have not personally tried to mount them. There is another thread I started in the reviews section with a couple pics. Also, this setup essentially shortens your pole by about 4” so just be ready for that.

I think I'll be going with the RRP fat flat bars from Thrust. How big of a difference is losing 4" ?

Bars are bars, I've never seen the attachment to them. My ski came with a blowsion steering setup, it doesn't feel any different then an oem setup. Or a kawi setup. They are all the same to me.

Get the thrust steering you won’t regret it. Puts your bars closer to the pivot, way less swing. Kind of like a mtn Bike with a short stem vs long stem. Putting new bars on your old turn plate doesn’t change the “swing” or the distance from bar to pivot

regardless of steering system and bars, which are good upgrades, you have still the short throw cable, which restricts the handling of the newer superjets massively. the steering system can not change that! If you want a real good handling you have to go to hell and change the steering cable for a pre 08 cable.
