lets talk fuel consumtion on big aftermarker carbs run time?

what kind of ride time are you guys getting out of single 46,48 carbs as well as duals. We have some guys running single riva 48 power bombs burnin through a tank twice as fast as dual 38?
We have a long slow wake out and back, plus a few min top end blast to get to our surf spot,so its pretty crucial for us.

I had a single power bomb 48 on my ski. I guess the tank would last about 45 min - hour just putting around and jumping waves.

a tank would last longer than my sessions.

Dual 48 BlackJacks on a 6mm race gas stroker. About an hour give or take of actual ride time. Maybe a little more. Same thing with dual 46 BlackJacks on a race gas superstock.

Depending on how hard you ride.... I can get anywhere between 1-2 hours on a tank depending on riding.

that is a 5 mil, 828cc, stock BB cyl. dual 46 makuni. msd enh.

average about 1.5 hr per tank.

Just for a comparison, In the summer the FX-1 crew goes on "creek" rides that burn a whole tank. Some of the boats (all FX-1's w/701's )have only minor mods, B pipe, prop, ect. Last season I was running a baby scream 771, 144mm pump, 48 full specs, with av gas. After 45-50 minutes run time, most guys were on fumes (just make it back). I always have about 3/4 gallon or more fuel left. They have 44mm or 46mm single carbs. Properly dialed in dual 38's might be best for fuel economy.

Your part throttle fuel burn has most to do with the pilot/popoff mixture. If you make the 1/4-1/2 throttle range as clean as possible then fuel consumption will be close to stock. The only problem is that those big carbs need to be sputtering rich in this range in order to respond like everyone likes. This combined with low pump load is what kills fuel economy on freeride standups.

Baby Scream 701 (same as a 771 but stock bore) running dual 46mm Chucky molested carbs.
I ride with my friend who has a 61X 701, single 44, and pipe.
When we do our trail runs I always have a little more fuel left in the tank when we get back to the beach. Not a lot more but always more.

What is chuckie doing to the 46s? We have a guy in the crew that runs them, fuel seems to be moderate in usage with them, still more than stock 38s though. These single 46 bj and riva carbs suck major fuel, they just arent gonna work out in our ride spot.
We dont have a place to leave fuel and our sessions are 2 hours plus on dual 38s SJ and single 44 slightly modded 61x case blasters.
So even dual novis or dual full spec 48s will use less fuel than these single big carbs then?

Its hard to get away from these dual 38s when they are REALLY dialed I have a ski that is hitting extremely hard with them,if you go to modded carbs and only gain a few % in hit but lose up to 45 min to a hour ride time,it wont be worth it for us.

I don't have exact numbers but last year I ran on a ported 701, bpipe, 185psi, total loss:

Dual OEM 44's on Boyesen Intake:
Single FS 49 on ATP intake:

I was running the 49 for a while and it sipped gas, I was impressed with how little it used.

When I put on the 44's I remember the first time I came in to pop off the hood and I was like DAMN is there a hole in my tank!!!!

There was quite a difference! Id say when the single 49 was 1/3 down on the tank the dual 44s would be at or just below half!!!

Take it for what it is.

If I was ever to build a surf only boat, or a rec boat for buddy's to ride with me it would have a single. So much cheaper and used way less fuel. Power was great too, just did not last as long as the duals.
