Lightened OEM SJ Review

Light boats take some getting used to for sure. I have talked to some people with 50lbs hulls that say the ski is just really boyant and instead of entering the water they have a tendency to bounce off of the water :Banane01: It really thorws you off and takes some time to get acustomed to the feel. I would think that in the surf it would be more difficult b/c the wave action will toss the boat around more where flatwater that is not really an issue.

I have that issue going on with my Wammer hull. In fact, I'd say that for surf riding it has given me a disadvantage, but on flatwater it has helped me. If I charge a wave with this ski, I always go nose high if I don't compensate for the light hull. It's actually less natural feeling in surf to me than my last OEM hull and I've had it awhile now.

I'm actually planning on a surf-style "makeover" for the Wamilton's ski late this season or next winter which will include reinforcements and possibly repositioning the battery/ tank/ waterbox to help balance the ski a little differently for surf riding.

Well, I suppose since your has some nice paint on it, I can throw in a couple sparkplugs that are pretty much new (only a few tanks on em) and a nice white gastank.:deal:

Well, I have started to modify my Cyclone footholds...... my feet realy didnt fit in the holds as far in as they should..... The toe pocket will get lengthened 1.5"s to acomodate my size 12 foot..... I am also gona add 3/4" of clearance were the top of my ankle buts up to the foot hold..... hard to explain.... I will be filling in some gaps...... I would just buy some new holds, but nothing is gona fit my foot perfect, so I will work with what I have.

I realy like where my reach is at with my feet in the holds...... So I will hack another 2" off the pole to compensate for my foothold work..... this should realy help with getting my nose down after tricks..... two birds with one stone.

That will put me at -5.5" on the pole, and -2.5" on the steering...... -8" from stock....... I will post results when I get back on the water...... along with a measurment of where my footholds are at on the boat..... I put them more forward then most boats I have ever seen....... but nothing like GDFL.

I'd hate to beat a dead horse, but get some REV's!! You can add foam or turf so they will accomidate your foot perfect.

Id try and learn to ride it the way it is. I rode Dan Steins backflip hull, and all these shorter hulls people are having now days. They ride very very nose high, and take some adjusting from regular riding techniques, but you can get the hang of it after a while. and really like the results:arms:

Now, I have to go and read your buildup thread and try and ligthen my fat boat. Diet time

I would never shorten a SJ..... they handle enough like shiet all ready! And Im 6'1"

ALL I am doing to the ski right now is moving my holds forward 2", and making my small cylones fit my big size 12", and taking 2" more from my pole.

Trust me...... I ride as much as possible...... 4-5days a week!!!!

The custom holds fit awsome, cant wait till the weekend.:Banane01:
