SXR Lites Class SXR Build for 2017

Can you explain the gas part? You running race fuel in your lites ski? Mine sxr is being built for lites and can't wait

I took it to mean the person who spends the most time/burns the most fuel practicing their riding skills.

Anyone can hop on a lites ski and look decent on a course because they are so easy to ride. You have guys with stock skis who show up to one race and do pretty decent simply because of this. The difference is, in major competitions like havasu, how much time you spend on the ski outside of a race in preperation. Things like learning to turn right inside of someone's tracks and using their wake as a berm, being able to ride within 3 feet of them and still keeping the ski hooked up, and not cavitating at absolute critical times like when setting up for a pass. Picking the proper sweeper lines and tight lines depending on who is in front or behind you and what the corner entrance and exit angles look like. These are things learned over hours and hours on a stock ski. That's why it's so competitive; you can't just buy more speed like other classes, YOU and your abilities ARE the speed

Defenetly why I decided to go that route. Our novice lites class up here is pretty competitive and by far the funnest race.

Skill over money. But it does help to take your ski to the limits of the rules. Lol

For 2017 novice womens ski class is now lites, should have done this so long ago, an affordable and competitive class to get people started in the sport

Yes, I knew it was going to change and have since taken a look at the rules. Pretty cool, though I won't be competing in womens since I was the only one competing locally last year.

Had flameout issues at my first race with this ski, left the line last every time after it completely died on me and I had to choke to start. Passed 2-3 people within 2-4 laps. Need to rebuild fuel pump and do some tuning then try again.

Handling and looks on point!

At work on a rainy Saturday so time to update the thread...

Got to race my first Saturday/Sunday race last weekend, it was so choppy at the lake we were calling it a 'surf' race haha. Took overall 1st place in Am Ski Lites - 2nd place once when my ski died on the start and got off the line last, and 1st the rest of the 4 races. Some great battles with @N3vrSat1sfied both days!

I rebuilt my fuel pump, richened the needles (can't do much with stock ones), replaced another new faulty tank valve - seemed to have stopped it from dying on the start line like it did EVERY time during the first Baytown race...but still bogged and died off the start line that one time and bogged out of righthand corners every race except one. Tends to bog badly when the throttle is stabbed vs smooth pull. The fuel tank was a little less than half full on the 'good running' race and the ski felt like it had more power than ever. Plugs are dark brown. I dunno...

My 3M side bumper flew off for the second time in a month (replaced new each time) the first race of Saturday. Anyone have better install tips with my third? I tried using glue as well as the provided foam tape with the second one...still no dice.

Some pics and vid, had an epic sub for a good 10 feet or more

Dead on the start, me looking back at my exasperated husband haha

Sounds like your jetting is too rich somewhere, possibly in your seat size. The hot ticket for limited class SXRs back in the day was 80 pilots, 160 mains, 1.8 seats and 115g springs. Stock might end up with smaller mains but that should get you a starting point. If you stab it and it bogs, the rent is too damn high. :)

Prep the bond rail with 3M #80 primer before sticking down the bumper. It's possible that your bond rail is dirty for some reason and the VHB isn't adhering properly. #80 primer creates a bonding layer for LSE (low surface energy) substrates and fixes most adhesion problems. Because chemistry. :D

I wish it was rich, but definitely a lean issue. But not so lean the plugs are white. The engine is stock stock stock except for arrestors, at sea level, 170ish psi in both holes. If I lean it out any it bogs even worse. Not a stumble/burble like being rich...hesitates like it is starved for fuel. Similar to how a stock SJ bogs, but worse. Rebuilding the fuel pump helped, didn't look like it was touched since it was born in 2003.

The biggest issue is that it started doing this two months ago with no changes in setup whatsoever. It rode fine and then one day it started bogging on hard right turns. And the first race was when I learned it died when you stabbed the throttle.

Hm...I shall try a fresh surface, thanks!

I said it over on your Instagram a while back. 3m adhesion promoter for your bumpers. Clean the bond rails really good with mineral spirits or denatured alcohol, then apply the adhesion promoter. Stick on your new bumpers using lots of pressure. Third times the charm!

Listen to @37 on tuning. He know his stuff!!

Thanks for the suggestions guys! But I don't think it is jetting issues (or at least the major issue isn't), I haven't changed anything in the carbs or engine from when it was working to when it started bogging.

I'm going to put the stock intake/filter on and see if it changes anything. I think it has an air leak somewhere, or a spark issue. Or something to do with the tank. Rebuilding the fuel pump helped, so I think it is fuel related. Still just stabbing in the dark though...lol

Airleak would show up as a runaway. Check your pulse lines. You could be looking pressure

True, had a runaway happen in my Blaster.

But that is where I'm totally stumped, what else could be keeping it from getting enough fuel?

Eliminated my selector, I've changed the pulse line (has only one fuel pump). It is just not getting fuel when taking very hard right turns, will bog and sometimes die mid right turn...never left. Plus the off idle acceleration bog.

Edit: still need to check my reeds, but idles perfectly and runs great at full throttle once it gets there.

I had the same low down out the corner bog on my lites SXR ended up turning my lows out and it got better, started playing with jetting, Mine was definately a lean condition, running 80 primary,140 mains and my pop off is at 22psi. Maybe this helps
