Looking for a B1. What year?

Location

I was search around and couldn't find exactly what I need to know.

Basically, I'm looking for a B1. Assuming everything is stock, what is the best year? I know they came with different engines, and I read up on transom cracks, ect. my gut says to go for the twin carb model, and I am partial to the 95/96 red, but if the price is right. . .

Educate me:dunce:

Also, if anyone is selling one in the north jersey, NYC area, let me know.

Thanks!

96 Because of the twin carb motor.
However, sooo many B1 skis out there have motor transplants, you really need to look at what you are buying.
1993-1996 are all the same, other than color.
To me, 1996 is the best looking ski stock.
But in short, look for a ski that has a 62T dual carb motor in it and go from there.

93-95 had the single carbs 61x and more stability at high speeds.. 96 had the twin carb 62t motor but they tweeked the hull, gains like 1/2 mph on glass but lost some stability on topend.

I would get a 93-95 hull and put a 62t in it.

Since the poster is a newbie (I think), I figured it'd be easier for him to just look under a hood and see dual carbs or the "62T" stamp on the tag.
Good luck in your search.
I always have a B1 or two or three for sale if you need it......

Thanks for the input. I'm not a newby, I just read more than I post.

That being said, I am no expert on my standup, and never rode a blaster. It just looks like a ton of fun, and i need a winter project.

how much of an issue are the 96 hull tweaks for normal riding? realize that I have a raider, and that things is twitchy as hell at speed. . . I'll be primarily on a lake, but occasionally in the ocean.

So i guess the hull changes to an average guy like me wouldn't make a noticeable difference. I know of a 94 for sale, so I guess that's got the 61x. I also know of a wet jet that I can practically have. is there any advantage to swapping in the wet jet motor?

the motors are almost identical. the wetjet has a 61x motor with a 46 carb and a slightly different intake manifold.

don't think that the 61x motor in a 94 is a bad motor. It's a great motor.

Unless you are planning on racing, go with the 61x set up. They have pretty close to 62t (96) power, better fuel milage, and easier to tun if you want to add HP parts. We have a ton of blasters here and in limited form, there really isn't much difference between the two motors when you put them in the blaster hull. The B1 hull just isn't designed to go much over 51-52 mph unless you drop a lot or motor in it.

If you are buying this to play with and to surf ride, go with the 61x, Factory pipe and a head and you are pretty much set.

Hope this helps,
Scottie
