Looking for better underlayment foam

You can use 1/2" or 3/4" neoprene from McMaster and it will outlast that grey micro cell foam.

Also keep in mind that it can be sanded down, so go with the thicker stuff.

Won't the neoprene absorb water though? I know the gray stuff absorbs some water too but I wouldn't think it absorbs any where near as much as neoprene.

The heels are getting thrashed more than any other part of the body and the load just blasts through to the back, maybe I'll inset the tray in the heel area for surf stance and foot hold spots for multi density, play pen stuff with 25mm on top so it will be like suspension on the next surf ski.

It's closed cell rubber foam and the water absorption rating is less than one percent.

The HT grey foam padding gets easily damaged if you leave your foot in one area for a while and does not spring back as quickly as the neoprene.

That EVA floor mat is great, same stuff thats in running shoes. Lighter than neoprene yet more firm.

I might be intrested in the stuff from McMaster Carr if it lasts a longer time. About the 25mm hydroTurf pad, what's the life expectancy on it?

Bumping this back up for more opinions on foam alternatives. The neoprene stuff from mcmaster is fairly expensive.
Here's a link with some more types of closed cell foam: http://www.foambymail.com/closedcell.html

Minicel is similar to the HT gray under padding and the gymnastic rubber would be another good choice if you don't mind that squishy felling under your feet.

Neoprene works the best and will last longer IMO but it is a bit expensive.

Thanks for that link zero. I think I'm going to place an order for 3/4" minicell. The plan is to place a single layer in the front of the tray and 2 layers in the back. Then I'll trim the 2 layers as necessary to provide me with a nice deep recess for my feet fit in and hopefully stay in.
