did your o-ring fail before the needle tip wore out? seems odd

Just stripped and cleaned an original set of OEM 38s off a waveraider. Both o-rings leaked. Needle tips/pop off was perfect after replacing the orings.

*The harborfreight kit also has the correct orings for the adjuster screws.

Off topic, but does anyone else have premature n/s failure on these high compression high strung engine setups? My comp ski goes from clean popping to dirty pop in 3-4 rides, but i can run an oem carb set on a 701 for years?

When my blaster used to vibrate badly I was going through a lot of needles. I also ordered a couple of brand new mikuni oem needle/seats from iboats and they only lasted 1 trip to the surf..

So I’m not the only one in the boat. I suspected it was from the excessive vibration. Thought it would go better switching from rhaas mounts to oem last year but guess not. I have maybe 40 gallons through this new ski and on my 4th set of oem needles.

I just ordered 100. I let yall know how it fits and the size.
The size is: 7.5mm inside,10.5mm outside- 1.5mm thick. Since it is for a static application, a rather "soft" compound would be indicated. Since there is a bit of ethanol in the gas, additional chemical resistance would be nice. I just "repaired" a set of 38's for a friend, came out of a running-older- ski that would let the crank case fill with gas when parked/stored. Needles looked as new, seats were so stuck, I had to drive them out from the other side (corrosion). The o rings were half (!) eaten away and not sealing, so.......
I strongly suggest to use something better than a plumbers (no offence intended towards the low cut jeans crowd) o ring, maybe this: mcmaster. com 1295N157
