Hey guys new here wondering if someone could answer a few questions for me. I just got a new freestyle ski after having a 440 before and a 650 wanted to try a freestyle out, the guy I got it from swears up and down nothing was wrong with it. I put it in the water and I cant even get enough power to stand up on the ski. It seems to me that the engine is running fine I've played with the jets and everything seems great. I can stand in the water holding the ski and hit the throttle and the ski will move but I can hold on to it and basically not move very far the engine sounds like its running great but seems to me something in the drive is slipping. At times it will burst and act like it wants to go but other then that nothing, it will pull me around but wont have enough power to get to stand up. The guy I got it from is telling me it needs an external exhaust in order for it to run properly but I cant even find one anywhere to buy for it. Does anyone know a website that has one? And does that even seem like that's what is wrong? Seems to me the drive is slipping or the prop, the coupler looks fine as does the prop. What are your guys thoughts? Any help would be great that's. 91 Kawasaki js300 hull swapped with a 98 750sxi motor. Currently the exhaust its ran down the right side of the ski and coming out the back. Thanks for any help

does not sound like an exhaust issue to me. Have you checked the compression of both cylinders? what do the plugs look like? are both cylinder plugs sparking? need more info to narrow down the issue

Okay Im running 180psi in each cylinder, spark is good and the plugs were wet and brown/black. He might have mixed to much oil in the gas.

Have you at least looked in the pump with a flash light to see the impeller? it could be trashed or even have a rock in it. if thats good then just work your way back to the engine. If it runs good it runs good. No tricks there.

x2. Look at the impeller and inside the pump area in general. Lok at it from under the ski and also from the back of the pump (steering nozzle) Look for any dings and or dents in the impeller. If it doesn't look super straight and tidy, it's going to make it not hook up. AKA feel like it may be slipping, then hooking etc.. Basically weird. BUT like said above too. There may be an issue between the impeller and the engine as well. So look at everything in between and see if anything looks messed up, or is stripped letting something slip, or spin between the engine and the impeller.

There is a couple very small dings in on all three sides of the impeller. That could be enough to make it not go? They look very small. I will try and get it apart and take some pictures for you guys to look at after this weekend.
