not exactly on topic but i cut a cheapo puller down long ago so the flywheel will come off without pulling the tank. $16 total cost

one of these days I want to cut part of the ring gear off a flywheel.....

then take a flywheel cover and cut off just the bendix part....(already have this)

then weld or bolt the ring gear to the OEM flywheel cover and have a nice cheap tool to lock the crank as well!

no rope down the cylinder with the nice puller.

But yes, the $14 one is the one that's in my jetski toolbox.

use real short bolts in the fw puller then run a small prybar or large screwdriver thru the space in the middle. i have been meaning to weld a handle to my puller so i can skip that step. to tighten it back down hold it the same way with a couple of the puller bolts. or you could whip a holding tool that uses the bolt holes easy enough.

im not crazy about the rope trick either.if your not carefull you can bend rings like that. ask me how i know:clown:

Here is what I use, I cant get to photobucket here at work. scroll down in this thread.
Much cheaper and works very well to hold your flywheel.
we used one at Daytona on Mario's motor.
Your standartd flywheel puller bolts on it and you can remove the flywheel bolt while holding the fllywheel.

perfect! now chop down the big bolt in the center of the puller and you dont have to pull the tank.

Flywheel holding tools

Both Cold Fusion & I have a simple flywheel holding tool for sale.. Why re-invent the wheel?
I personally feel that rope in the piston is punishable by death!!
