Hey there i'm Evan. so background of watersports my grandparents have a place on the st. Lawrence river in the 1000 islands ive been on boats all my life. when I was 12 got boater PWC lisence and my dad bought me and my brother a 97 seadoo GTX. Had that and a 19 foot maxim I/O in NY (i live in CT). Rode the ski for years loved it, my dad decided to sell it about 4 years ago so i manned up and bought a 97 Seadoo Speedster jetboat (twin 720cc engines). still have that boat love it I can do 360s jump waves & do it with a few friends...

My uncle has had standups since late 80s he hasnt ridden in probably 6 years but still has an 80s J550 (red kawi) and a 96 750SX (white & purple tray I belive). he used to also have a 650sx but he sold that to a girl, then bought it back, then sold it around 97 soon after he got the 750. He used to race. I have never ridden a standup before but always liked them. a few years back saw some freestyle standup vids and got the idea I wanted one.

Fast Forward I want to get a standup ski. Something to play with up at the river and take to the lakes around me for some fun. So im not new to boating or jetskis but never ridden a standup. I am thinking I will try and buy one this fall/winter when there are more for sale and get a better deal, then start riding in the spring. Not looking to spend too much but just graduated college so i should be gettting a real job by wintertime. So my uncle is a kawi fan over a yamahas he said he always liked how they slide more where as the yamaha superjets hook up more through the corners.

Im looking for some guidance on what to get. I want to play around jump, maybe learnto do some tricks like nose stab etc but not looking to do any freestyle competing, just learning tricks for myself. Im thinking I want to get a 800 SX-R. would this be a good decision for a first ski? totally open to any advice or other brands. Dont really know much about whats out there. so looking for some guidance. Since i decided im going to get one cant stop watching lenzi and malone freestyle vids.... Im in CT so im not far from the sound and my girlfriend still has 2 years in Newport RI right on the ocean so maybe ill take it up to newport and rip around in the ocean. theres a bunch of surfing that goes on there and some nice medium sized waves...

Heres a few pics of jetski and my jetboat & the River up in NY

so should I get an SX-R, a 750SX, a superjet... lay it on me what do you all think? I was thinking SX-R but im by no means against yamahas Ive owned yamaha dirtbikes and atvs for years love the brand. Really hemming and hawing just looked at a few SJs on ebay looked pretty fun (round nose). I will be keeping the jetboat to go pound rough waves but most of the places I ride often do have chop. im not going to be taking any trips on this thing just want to screw around and play with it. Have a buddy with a standup & house on local lake too

first...on the 11th picture down i'll take the one in the middle:439:

oh yeah about the jet skis. try doing a search about this there are about 100 similar threads. i love my sx-r. it rips pretty good stock and it's real stable/easy to ride. most people here will point you to a superjet. I've owned both and cant disagree with them, I just prefer the turning and stability of the sx-r. have fun out there and as long as that's not your wife feel free to give her my email :headbang:

90% of the people on here will tell you to get a superjet- any year.

9% are going to tell you to get an sxr.

1% are going to be old kawi hard core people that still think 550s are where its at. For the love of all that is holy ignore these people. If its a kawi and not and a sxr don't get unless its just dirt cheap.

with that said just get a superjet. You are going to have the best support team if you go that route.

I used 8mm... when I talked to hydroturf they said that is what most if not all of their sponsored riders use... so that was good enough for me.... I think its fine until I get older.... then maybe I will want a little extra padding? --> this is for flatwater though... I rode in the ocean maybe I would be using the 25mm... a little rougher landings I'm sure...
