hey all, I'm about to purchase my 1st ski and I'm looking for some experienced riders to check in. Im located in Jersey and maybe buying a 93' superjet sn with a 1 yr/old 701 dual carb installed with factory pipe. It has a bilge pump and ski starts right up.. mechanic who is selling it tells me it was ridden in fresh only and flushed out and wd-40'ed by owner. hull all scratched up but no patches/holes visible. they're asking 1500 and I'm tempted to scoop it up and make it a winter project. Ive been looking for older ski and they seem to sell quick around here. opinions? thanks guys. all the other posts I've read here have been extremely informative. D

Sounds like a really good deal to me. You've got to figure close to $750 for a 62t/61x engine, and another $650 for a used b-pipe so the rest of the ski is basically free. Is it really a b-pipe or something else?

There's nothing wrong with the squarenose hull...same bottom hull basically as the '96-'07 roundnose. I'd swap out the handlepole at some point, and consider modding the hood so it doesn't take in as much water (too many holes in that hood), but again for that price I'd grab it.

Check the compression, check the impeller (if it's the stock aluminum it's got to go) and pump for signs of salt, stuff like that.

The only thing weird is that if it was fresh water only, why bother flushing and wd-40'ing it? It's either a salt ski or the owner was really meticulous and was way overkill on keeping it clean...

Jump on it !!! If it fires up and purrs like a kitten, has a b pipe and a 701 you got your 1500 in just parts. The fact its a running superjet it's worth 1500 JUMP ON IT. I would if I was in jersey

thanks for all the input guys. I do plan on getting a new pole and hood. could care less if the the hull is all faded and horribly stickered-up. Thats what the winter months are for around here. my reservations are only b/c a friend back in late 80's early 90's had a kawi and it was always breaking down. he could've been just a bad owner-dont remember. Im a yam guy after my R1 bit the dust(almost me too) and I've read that sj are less prone to problems.
