not sure if many of you knew "The Hankster/ Hemi Henry", but he was on of the major players in the vintage years of jetski.
he had a jetski shop in campbell/san jose ca back in the day. his adds are in all the old watercraft unlimited, splash, jet skier and water scooter magazines.
he had a pretty trick lineup of his own custom products .
not the easy crap to copy but some product that took a very talented hand to make and the brains to make it up.
this is his parts and services catalog.
that's Henrys old buddy, Bob Famous Phares on his original 1973 green 400 on the cover.
i dont remember exactly when or how we met, but i'm pretty sure he called me off my craigslist add for jetski junk about 10 years ago.
jetski junk was the link that we had, but he wore many hats throughout the years and I was lucky to have him for a friend for that short time.
he also had a speed shop back in the early hotrod days, raced a blown drag boat and dragsters and had a bunch of vintage trick stuff that only mortals like us dream about playing with.
he had some rare as hens teeth, trick jetski junk too. like
4 1973 kawi lime green 400s. 2 V bottoms and 2 standard.
a 1974 blue ski
a fleet of yellow 1976s
5 PJS thunderjets including 2 dual rear exh. hulls
2 Yamaha FX1s
a Polaris octane
a new sxr1500
a dozen 750
2 dozen 650s
4 of the very first 2 versions of the original seadoos
2 typhoons
too many 440/550s to mention
and much much more.
we talked every few days.
I knew something was wrong when he wasn't answering or calling back for a couple weeks, plus he'd been sick, hacking and coughing.
i got the call that he was gone.
very sad to know i'll never again hear his message on my machine" markster, its the hankster"
it sucks
