Update 11-18-16
On Monday morning I called the state parks and spoke with the Sargent on duty. He told me that My situation was fairly unique and that I was the only one in months to report a lost at sea ski and that if one washed ashore I would be called. I still sent him pictures and info anyway. He said that they generally was ashore in a week or so and they are usually in pretty bad condition. But if it got caught in debris on the ocean floor I would most likely never see it again.
Well Tuesday morning at while at work I received the call I had been hoping for! My ski was spotted rolling in the surf and the ranger on duty went out in the surf and grabbed it before it could wash back out. We just had a full moon and it was a super mood which equated to extra large current swells and I think was part of the reason it washed up so soon.
Luckily I have a friend that lives in San Luis and he was able to meet the rangers immediately and recover my ski so it never went to a tow yard. My friend was able to hitchhike down the beach, convince a ATV to help tow it to a truck who had stopped to help. They loaded her up and got her back to dry land and transferred to my buddies hitch hauler and she made it back safe to his place in San Luis safely.
I rushed home from work. Got in the truck, drove four hours. Got my baby back. Drove back home. Got in at midnight, back to work the next day. I start my days at 4 am so it has been rough. I have came home the past two days and began the tear down process.
To my dismay the hood of the ski is done. She took a considerable amount of damage from what looks like the handle bars and controls beating her until they ripped off.
But to my surprise. The rest of the entire ski looks intact. No cracks, no breaks. A few battle scars that can be filled and a few gouges that can be repaired. She has considerable surf rash, but nothing a new gel coat cant fix. From the front foot hold, mid ski and back. The entire ski is immaculate! Almost cant even tell that she was under for three days! Something can be said about the builder Tony from TigerCraft that can build such a strong and resilient ski.
All the components under the hood stayed intact. Motor Looks amazing. carbs are good. Pipe was filled with sand but is fine. The interior carbon fiber layup I did for flexing came apart but was expected. Motor mounts, gas tank, water box, and basically everything else was salvageable!
I am so happy that for the most part, I am okay and so is the ski. What a learning experience and ordeal!
