ok i understand that 100% but dont tell me that a 10 ft wave picking you up and then crashing you down wont separate your ski from you. i dont mean to hate at all but nobody here was in those waves. everyone might say that they have been mopped up in worse, but it wasnt those waves that they were mopped up in. i understand that you should have a death grip but dont tell me i shouldve held on more. none the less the 5 sets of waves that were behind it to push the ski further im a very strong swimmer used to be a life guard at a beach not to far from there and no matter how strong of a swimmer you are, its the OCEAN, your a micron compared to it. and it will do whatever it wants to do with you and you will NEVER beat it. it happens to the best of us and nobody should say otherwise. things just went wrong everything from the rope to my dual 800gph bilge pumps failing (they were both running when i left the ramp) caused this to happen.

on another note hey ryan weres my roll did you get any of it on camera give me a little pick me up lol
Thanks for all the help fellas couldnt have gotten outa there without your help. Joe,Bruce,Ryan, and last but not leased Steve

Who gives a flying !@#$ bout a ski when your stuck out in the middle of an inlet with a sunk ski and getting repeatedly pounded by waves
Ill hold my head high saying all those guys helped me get safely on land and the hell with the ski
Theres always another ski waiting for me to ride out in the inlet again
cant say for sure, i dont know that break. i do know you should have been swimming your ass off and trying to stay in the tray with the nose pointed to shore. if you are laying in the tray your chances of hanging on are much better. the waves are big but not THAT big or powerful, they would just pass over you and the ski. oh yea and another thing is everyone doing circles around you, that is not cool! get on your knees and stop next to him with your ski facing the ocean. one ski is all thats needed just be sure to have backup ready.

I am with stanton also. I tried to hold it in but WTF is going on the video is like 8 minutes long of watching countlees chances of getting your buddy out, and nobody has got a clue. I will say it again bummer but glad everyone made it out ok, you may not always be that lucky.

I dont have anything bad to say about the guys they all help out sometimes vídeo doesnt explain everything therés so much more left out

You live and learn right lol hehe no luck so far i got my old clamming fleet keeping a lookout and also a Towing company Is looking

It would have been avoidable if he had a rope tied up quickly. We were riding around him waiting for him to get the rope tied up. Can't tow without it hooked up. that cam, like every other cam makes the waves look not as big as they are.

The surf was very powerful that day and 90% of the waves were well overhead. Yeah, he should have swam faster, should have gotten the boat started faster, and hooked the rope up faster. Unfortunately none of that happened and thats why things ended the way they did.

You know whats funny is in the past two years at daytona I think ryan has towed in 5-8 skis. We have all been riding together as a crew for 4 years now and ryan has almost 20 years in the surf. We are pretty good at knowing where the other guy is, getting a downed rider out of danger, and taking care of a sunk ski. Kev has been out of the loop all season and only rode three or four times this year.

That is where we ride. The inlet is where the waves were breaking that we rode that day. Note where the three boats are in that google maps image thats where the waves started and they were about a quarter mile out past the jetty. Normally we go around the jetty to the beach, but on big wave days its not safe to ride near the beach where the shore pound is 8-10 foot waves straight onto sand. It is a very steep slope where the land meets the ocean, making it much different than say daytona where you have 100 yards of 4 foot depth before it drops.

Lets see,

Well here we go, I got it now. We should have all lined up in a row, noses pointed into the surf, and we all should have tied the rope. Right !!!!! Then we should have towed it in with the waves driving us into the bottom, Not just breaking over us. Last time I tryed that, the wave drove me into the sand bar, breaking the lip of my SXR. I also forgot that a superjet wouldn't do that!!!!!!! Even if it was sunk. Also as far as towing it in backwards, by the front, and if I could only reach my Dewalt I could have screwwed his hands to the ski. Falling off in tow and then going back to save him doesnt affect anything either. But I left the dam drill home. So after 30 or so mins. and sun going down I raced in to a fisherman and called the Coast Quard, who is a over rated power tripping sheniss. They did nothing but watch the half sunk ski with a distress flag tied to the ride plate, float out to sea. Awesome Job Guys!!!!!! Love the tax dollars at work.
All in all everyone made it back alive to ride and build another day!!! It happens to the best of us!!!
Now For all the other Super Hero Keyboard Jockeys, I will donate a ski to sink and I would like to see what you would do in those conditions. We have waves like this threw the fall, 8 to 15's, 60 degree days , 40 degree nights, Bring IT!!! I will even fly you in.

Post of the day right there!!! If you werent there you need to STFU! I rarely get to ride surf and I crap my shorts in the little stuff. It takes your brain approx 2 seconds flat to go into save yourself mode!
The ONLY important thing is the owner of the missing ski is alive and able to go buy/build another ski whereas his buddies would not have been able to go buy another friend to ride with!!!

finally a sensible answer. its just a boat. once you have had your life flash before your eyes couple times you realize how unimportant materialistic things are.
