Lucky 550sx find!

A couple years back I took my car to a local transmission shop to have my master cylinder in the clutch replaced. The shop owner had a handful of Yamaha FZR’s that were all set up for HydroDrags. One was the world record boat in 2012...

I’m working on building my flat water ski for this year and went into to talk to him about my engine build. Towards the end of the conversation he told me he had something he wanted to sell... led me to the back of the shop and on a rack full of skis sat this near mint 550sx.

It’s a 93, he bought it off a friend in 95 and it hasn’t been registered since 98... only taken out once a season to keep the engine fresh. I asked him what he wanted for it and he said $550 since it’s a 550.. couldn’t pass it up for that price. He even put a fresh battery in for me. Needs cleaned up a bit but happy with the find! Is it all stock? I picked up a 90 in mint shape only had the factory qt of oil it was sold with with a pint left in it. Thats all the fuel thru it till i bought it. I stole mine from a old foreman that bought it for his kid when his kid went to college. He hoped he would come home more if he had a toy to play with. Mine was 300 not running

Ive been looking for another score like that ever since with no luck. All it took was a quick carb clean new battery and plugs been running ever since. I have added a bunch of parts to it pipes impellers intake grates ride plates milled stock and adtermarket heads. Got a combo thst works pretty good for me sbn 44 jet sport head chambered for about 185 new prox slugs a aggressive port job on a set of 87 jugs (i kept my 90 oe jugs stock). After a pjs 5250 pipe i think it was then a coffman pipe (long and skinny) then a westcoast 7 ring now i really like either of my factory half pipes. Mostly the one ment for reed boats. Then the other one that is black with that splatter paint job on it. Both of those pipes hands down gave me better down low and better pull up top then any of the full pipes i had.

I knew @300 it was a score. Ive kept all the oe parts so i van go back to stock at any tine. Its way more fun setup like this tho
