Super Jet Lund Hitch Carrier

I'm a tad worried about the ski hanging off the back of my truck.

Would you guys recommend a trailer instead? I'm tossing up between the hitch carrier and a folding trailer. Obviously I'm looking at options to save room.

If you only need to haul one ski, the hitch hauler is the way to go.

I built a shop stand on casters at the same height as the hitch hauler on my truck. Just slide the ski across. The ski on the shop stand and the hauler leaned up against the wall takes up WAY less room than a trailer.

A guy (ill let him say if he wants) showed up to WaveDaze with a cheap 500 pound rated hauler. It bent the main bar and he put it in the trash and bought a Rad Dudes hauler.

These things can be rated for 1000 but the bouncing and length off the back of the truck plays a big part.

The Rad Dudes Hauler is way over built and has a very. Thick steal main beam that we guarantee is the strongest out there.

Alum is a great idea and many guys have done them but they don't take the beating and to make them the same strength the main beam wold need to be solid alum and $$$$$$$$.

I don't know who that dude was.
That cheapo pep boys hauler was ok for dragging my superjet around, but the extra weight, and distance from the bumper that was required for the blaster bouncing up and down at 80 mph caused it to go a little limp...
It was finally the excuse I needed to buy the Rad Dudes hauler.

True, when i had my hitch hauler i reinforced my hitch with some gussets to the frame of my jeep just as added security. I had a close call with my jeep and my ski on the back and decided to just buy a trailer i feel better now.

It would be the strongest out there if this one did not exist. The main tube is 1/8" tubing, the two bunks are 1/16" tubing, rebar is welded under the two bunks for support, tubing is welded on all sides, a 1 1/4 receiver was welded into the rear for a trailer ball. Yamaha rub rail off a couch was used for the top of the bunks, damn thing is bulletproof !

My first post, and it's in the trailer section lol,

Came here looking for ideas.. Returning to the stand-up ski after a 15 year hiatus.
I have a nice trailer for the wife's couch, and modified the other side for my SJ, but my wife rarely goes, and hate leaving her FX sitting outside unnecessarily (It's a 2005 FX Cruiser HO with 47 hours lol)
I have been lurking for about a week or so, planning a build for a bumper hauler.

Then my selective memory kicked in, and I remembered I live in SoCal, and that between myself and my wife.. We have been rear-ended 4 times in 10 years.. Most recently, my 2013 Ram (which hadn't had it's first oil change yet.)


So I guess I'll keep hauling around the dead weight lol.

So... what's the difference if you have one ski on a hitch hauler or 2 on a trailer?.. if you get rear-ended you'll have screwed up skis either way...

I have about 6-7 inches of bunk board, then a steel crossmember before it gets to the ski's.
Obviously there are a million different scenarios of what could rear-end you/speed, height of vehicle etc... But driving on the 91 and 15 parking lots down here, So far, all the rear-ends we took would have all but destroyed my SJ, where is on the trailer, I would be most likely patching up a trailer or doing light try repair.
