Machining Project Ideas?

Im taking a "Computer Aided Manufacturing" course this semester and I've been learning how to take a model from a program (NX11) and create operations to post process it to codes for CNC machines. I've been playing around on a Haas VF3 and a Romi M510.

The next coming up project is whatever i'd like. So I think it would be pretty cool to make something for my ski. I have decent experience with NX11, but the models have to be somewhat simple. Not like designing/machining a head or anything haha. I only will have one week to design/post process/build. Also nothing bigger than a couple inches.

Any Ideas?

I'm thinking of a trim lever since i'm currently just using a BMX brake lever. I already have a blowsion throttle.

The simplest part ive made is a billet pole bracket! 4 pieces total.

I made some press in filter adapters for some carbs and then did a steering system

pole brackets a good one, but also battery tray, throttle lever, you could do a trim ring too, NX CAM is awesome just started using it myself, enjoy!

What about a billet start stop housing to replace the stock Yamaha plastic stuff?

I've always been interested in seeing someone machine their own upper and lower pole ends for a twin-tube style pole. I don't know how difficult this would be, though.

Thanks all for the ideas. My next big purchase will be an AM pole. As sweet as building tube pole ends sounds, it definitely will exceed the amount of material allowed for this project. Most likely would take more than a week too, lmao. Unfortunately the shop doesn't allow us to use equipment for personal projects. That's why i'm taking advantage of my current situation!

Will update with my decision this weekend.

Cool! That's why i suggested a pole bracket. Its the simplest "2d" part you can make for our skis without 3d surfacing/multi axis work. My trim ring was made using full simultaneous 5 axis machining in a trunion, in 1 op, ~4 hours machine time.

If you wanted to build something you could sell a bpipe manifold would be the way to go. ET makes one and Able used to make them.

They hold up well, just would be nice to have a nice billet PC that doesn't fade on the sun over time, maybe seals put water better and could allow better fitment around certain trim levers. Definitely more of a want than need lol

I actually thought about building a Yamaha switch but didn't because of the unit never giving issues. but its worth looking at
