SXR Magnum Pump Questions for SXR

Can anyone give their experiences or opinions about the Magnum pumps? I did some research and Solas and Skat-Trak both make a magnum pump? Are they the same company or do they both make a Magnum Pump?

I found the Skat-Track Mag Pump on Blowsion.com starting at $1864 and they have options such as pump size (140, 142, 144) and setback options...

On the Solas Website they have their Magnum Pump listed for $1250 and it is a 140mm diameter pump non setback.

Is there a difference in the Solas vs Skat-Trak? What is the difference in the diameter of the pumps?

Is this really $1000 dollars better then the TBM pump cone pro? Anything you guys can tell me about these pumps is much appreciated.

Help me learn lol

What mods do you have done to your ski. Spending the money on that would be well after you have reached the pinnacle of other things. The pump cones work well and give you about 40% of what a pump does for a fraction of the price. both the skat and solas pumps work very well. solas only offers a 140mm which is the same diameter as stock. When you go bigger as skat offers, it is usually due to major motor mods or an increase in displacement etc. Hope this helped you understand a little bit.

My ski is a stock SXR 800 with a wetpipe and r&d filters on it. Nothing major here.

What is the advantage of a bigger diameter pump tho?

Thanks for all your input on my threads, you definately are helping me!!

I can explain more. If you want to pm me we can discuss lots of mods for your ski that will end up in a really nice package. I do all the builds for TBM racing, we have a great wetpipe recreational setup. You can find a writeup from PWI at the TBM site under press I believe. Essentially adding on to what you have as your budget allows. The way I do things though is to build it up as it makes sense, so that each thing you do compliments the next. Then you don't backpeddle or do things 2 or 3 times, such as pulling the pump, jetting the carbs, etc. A bigger pump is for a superstock or full mod bigbore ski where the engine makes way more power and can "pull" a bigger pump, or is needed to process the amount of water needed for the big engine power. Also to add more "hookup" at the greatly increased speeds that a raceboat travels at. Look forward to helpin' ya out more. Brian@ULTIMATE

Mattsmith which mag pump did you run? Skat-Trak or Solas? Is there a big difference between the two? Other then the $600 price difference?

I think he has to be running Skat unless there is something else out there. Solas doesn't make a 142mm or a setback.

I think it's going to be tough to find someone that has tried a Skat vs a Solas back to back on the same ski for a true comparison. It would be nice though.

One other way to look at it (at least I have) is that most full aftermarket trim systems are $700+. If you add this to a $320 super cone, you are at $1020. The Solas Mag is $1250 and probably worth the upgrade.

But the trim system only comes on the Solas and its only to drop the trim down right? I would want to raise my nose up if anything...

I am leaning toward getting the tbm pump cone and seeing if that helps good first, then I can get the other stuff... (Jet works flow valve, flywheel, grate)

Ya, it's designed as drop nozzle, but look at Shonuff's thread, he modified it to be up trim.

Give us a good report on the pump cone. I'd be curious to hear your feedback.

I am running the TBM pump cone with the stubby end. There was a good difference in hook up when this was added. However, it is not a MAG
