Making 91 SJ Lighter?

I have a 91 SJ and wondered how I could make it lighter without spending a lot of money?

I'd say cut open the tray and refoam, it's probably waterlogged...the other option would be too gut the hood liner and make a new one.

Should only cost a couple hundred dollars if that in materials plus some time...

you could also replace the heavy sn waterbox with a aluminum one...will save a few pounds there

J/k, the stock pole weighs a ton as does an alum one for a squarenose, look at getting a stock roundnose pole.
I also agree to swap the stock fiberglass waterbox to an alum one. Go with an aftermarket one or OEM one from a roundnose, whatever you can find cheaper. No real HP performance gain, only weight savings

I did the RN pole swap on my 91. No BS the RN pole is at least 5-8lbs lighter than the SN pole. I also pulled the foam off mu RN chinpad and turfed it, its way lighter now.

Yeah, those stock chin pads are heavy.

All of the things mentioned are good:
Hood liner
re-foam and seal
water box
Stock RN pole
Remove foam from pole pad and turf
I would add a light weight small battery to the list. It's about the cheapest and easiest way to drop lbs.

A very easy thing is to replace your battery with a smaller one. I ran a 4amp-hour for a while, but that was a bit small and now have a 9amp-hour in. Much lighter than a regular 16amp-hour, plus it's sealed.

4amp-hours was just fine, it had plenty of cranking amps just not a lot of capacity, so you have to make sure your ski starts easily. Mine starts with a touch of the button, so that wasn't an issue.

I did switch to a 9amp-hour though for extra capacity but still some weight savings.

stock sn weights at 296 atleast mine did, with fire extinquisher,16lbs battery, no fuel.
