Oh, I emailed Solas to see if they were coming out with a yamaha 155 stator and they said they had no demand for it but they do make a 144, 148 and 160mm already so I assumed the 148 was the torrent.

The torrent is a 1 piece cast stainless pump and wear ring combo. The solas is just the stator section and with the reputation the 144 had I would bet most stay away from it. The maxx pump is a hand welded stator section and 1 piece stainless body with wear ring built in. In our demo boats we have so far ran, solas 144 maxx 148 maxx 155 and torrent 148. It all boils down to who you wish to support. Buying the h20 designs pump keeps your money here in the USA.

I ran a 148 Solas Mag for a season.... then changed to an H2O Designs 148 for the second half 2013. Ended up selling my Solas. The H2O Designs pump has much better hook up in the surf IMO.
I think a few guys rode my FootRocket in Daytona last year with this pump and were pretty happy with it.

I have ran the Solas, Skat, Maxx and H20.
First I tried the Solas 144 pump. It works well compared to stock.
Next was the Skat 144 non and 144 set back. Back to back. Solas 144 was not as good as the Skat 144 IMO. Ended up running the Set Back Skat for about a season.
Then 144 Skat SB to 148 Maxx SB. Max was lighter and better. Ran that for about half a year. There were fitment reasons and other factors why I kept looking at other pumps.
Then Maxx 148 SB to H20 SB back to back. My Maxx had to be changed and the H20 was in stock so I swapped out, expecting to be let down. The H20 IMO hits harder down low, all parts were direct swap, no changes. It seems to give me more height.
Remember its all about the set up, same with motors, I have ridden two of the same setups and tuning makes all the difference. I tried to do the pump swaps, even, no other changes. Changing diameter if the pumps throws the prop pitch off so that is tougher to make a call. Each change I noticed a distinct improvement in the height I was able to attain.
H20 and Skat 155 are same weight. All these aftermarket pumps are about 10lbs. Stock is the lightest as its all aluminum. All aftermarket pumps have SS in the wear ring areas and stator section. Only weight reduction is the outside housings which are about 1/8" thick and inner bearing areas on the Skats.
My next check will be a Skat 155 SB, but this requires a different hull so any comparison from here on out will be skewed. I am expecting the same improvements, larger pump=more low end hit, and height, if tuned properly.

Love my h2o 148, I took the time to fit my shoe to perfectly match the pump, its weight is damn near the same as pump wear ring combo. Have them install the bearings and driveshaft by the meticulous staff. build quality is second to none. I highly suggest buying American made products.

We've had quite a few experiences with all the pumps talked about. We are the direct distributor for H20 Designs products however all these pump options have their place in the market, and we have used all three in different applications. I've tried to break down feedback from each pump design and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Solas 144 pump - This has been a great option for the last few seasons since they have been released. We've had good results over stock, most of the time the issues with the bearing tolerances have been due to installation, however there have been some we've come across that needed machine work. If you already have a pump with a good wear ring and aftermarket prop, this is the cheapest pump upgrade option.
Skat 144 Pump Setback/Non Setback - The skat pump has been tested throughout the years, many of the sames issues continue to come up with the ss parts within an aluminum housing. Over time, many pumps tend to swell and cause the aluminum housing to crack. These are the lightest options, however many riders looking for the lightest best pump have gone to much larger pumps.
Maxx 148 Pump - The 148mm pump option is quite a bit more effective then the 144 in almost all applications. We've run this pump from 701's up to large a/m motors and have had good results. We've had a few quality issues as far as the welding and veins but for the price and wait time it is a great option compared to Skat.
H20 Designs Torrent Pump - The 148mm pump offered through H20 Designs has a few differences that can only be offered through a cast pump. Due to the overall casting, the waterflow vs the Maxx comes out of the box being more efficient, no welding on veins or housings is needed. Having the one piece Stainless Steel housing, makes the issues of swelling and cracking of the housings non existent. If looking for a pump to ride in salt water applications we would advise to go with an all Stainless pump.
Overall all the pumps talked about above have had their place in the market. If you are looking at upgrading from more then just a 701 with a head, then I would suggest the 148mm pump for any application. We've seen great results with this. As far as speaking about the H20 Designs Torrent pump, the reason they decided to build a 148mm housing was so that it would be able to fit in all Superjet hulls without modification while offering a larger pump transfer the power of today's motors.
No matter which pump you decide to purchase, all of them will be quite a bit of an upgrade over a stock pump. As far as weight between all of them, I haven't spoke to anyone that could tell the difference between all the pumps while riding.

Is the right side cooling line port up enough to stay out of the way of the steering cable? I had to relocate my fittings on my old 144 solas to keep the steering cable centered.

The right side cooling is high enough, we have not had any issues with stock as well as aftermarket hulls.
