no . remove the whole wire assembly from the gromet and replace with one large gauge wire and attach directly to the negative post inside the ebox and the other side to the negative post at the battery. i actuality the idea you mentioned will work and help the cause. the larger one will simply allow for a lower current load.(it is still a redundant ground though)

Second on the importance of proper grounding - I find it odd that the manufacturer relies on only 1 small ground wire from the stator to provide the return for all the e-box components.
Many times I have found the wire core rotted but the insulation intact - you have to pull the wire apart inch by inch to find it, when it feels like a rubber band....

If you don't get improvements by getting rid of the switch it sounds like it's gonna be a CDI - "usually" when a coil fails it either runs like crap or doesn't

Well my ski isn't starting now. Could that be a problem? Can I leave it with the connector on it? It just turns over.
