Super Jet Mdavies' SN - Winter Project

So, decided I need advice on the whole endeavor, so I figured there is no better place to drop in for advice than here.

The plan (God Willing) is in these next miserable months of winter to do the follow to my SN.

Replace Stock SN pole with RN Pole (Hazard Bracket)
Install Pancake Pete Front Foothold
ATP Foot Holds
25mm Underlay
Black Diamond Turf
*Turf Rails* (Debating the idea)
Factory B Pipe (Cash willing)
Lightened Flywheel (**)

As well, just to clean it up a bit, I got some serious scrubbing to do.

the shorter pole alone will make a world of difference. if your on a budget just ground out your sn bracket and a little if the rn pole base and buy some stainless washers.

SJ Build Winter 2010 004.jpg Took me almost 20 minutes to beat that dang bolt out... I guess I should have came on here and asked for suggestions, or a bigger hammer.

SJ Build Winter 2010 014.jpgAs for the steering setup, I am not completely sure what to do with it.... I left the "end" of it attached and slid it through the pole as I removed it. Going to slide it out of the bracket and work on it tomorrow.

SJ Build Winter 2010 006.jpg Best way to clean a dirty tank? as well as interior of a ski?
SJ Build Winter 2010 010.jpgWeight of stock SN Pole with nothing attached.

SJ Build Winter 2010 013.jpgWeight of stock RN Pole, nothing attached :)

SJ Build Winter 2010 008.jpg Weight of me....

SJ Build Winter 2010 007.jpg Discoloration and harding of fuel lines. Only at the ends, is it worth replacing?

So far that is all I got done today... I have to take off to a Stag for my cousin later tonight and won't be able to post again till Saturday afternoon.

Also, one question... Before I attempt to uninstall the stock SN bracket and install Hazard, I imagine it is worth it to take out Water box? Let me know, Mike.

hooker prop would wake this thing up they are 15% off this month at impros, and if your lines are hard and cracked replace them , i used one line from tank to carb removed fuel selector very easy you wont need much gas line, you should have line left over if you do this, try to get a pipe even if you can find a cheap 200 or less red pipe its worth it, pro tec ,coffmans dont listen to all these so called experts that the b pipe is the only way, my spec blaster is faster with the red pipe than my mod factory pipe, good luck i owned a sn for 15 years

Change out that water box. Find a RN one, TBM, or any other aluminum one. they are about a third of the weight and really lighten up the nose. Change out prop to an aftermarket one, I have a hooker thats great but anything is better than stock. Make sure you save up enough for a pipe, they are well worth it. At least find a 650sx pipe and a FP/Coffman manifold and make a cheater pipe. Get some Hydrofloric acid (or really good bilge cleaner) and take it to a good carwash and hit it with some high pressure to clean the hull.
Are you running the 650 or 701?

looking good, buy some new fuel line, it is good to replace if it is all hard and brittle. plus it will dress up the motor a bit. i use the yellow tygon from homehardware and the same kinda fuel filter you have. any pipe is good for power but for ease of install and staying together a b-pipe is superior. now lets get that tray cut open and start the real work.

Alright.

I guess I didn't think out my first post too well.

Spec's on my ski Currently.

90 SN Hull with a 97 62T 701
R+D Intake
R+D F/A
Westcoast Rideplate
Aftermarket Prop, (Unsure of pitch, previous owner didnt know)
ODI Grips
Hood Straps
Handlebar mounted bilge switch
Custom front nosepiece
Fixed stock hood.

Think that's it for now.

As for the pipes, I actually bought a Riva Red, but installed it incorrectly and damaged it. I have been quoted around $115 to repair it properly, and was under the impression it isn't worth it to fix.... Let me know.

You prolly won't be able to buy another a/m pipe for less than that. And it seems worthless now... I say get it fixed. Simple green and a scotch brite pad will help with tank and what not. Good luck

I really don't want to give the embarrassing details, but I managed to crack one of the mounting 'sleeves'. The pipe itself is still in alright condition.

Also, one question... Before I attempt to uninstall the stock SN bracket and install Hazard, I imagine it is worth it to take out Water box? Let me know, Mike.

I don't believe you have too take out the waterbox to install the new bracket but it is only 2 straps and 2 hose clamps holding it on so for the 5 minutes it takes to take them off I would just do it and give yourself some more space. Plus if you are going to give the bilge a good cleaning it wouldn't hurt to have it out to get up in the nose to clean.

I think you are on the right track. I'm trying to imagine a welding repair that would run over a hundred bucks?......
Like everybody else, I am fan of the B pipe. However, if you get a cheaper quote on fixing that red pipe it wouldn't be a bad option and save you some cash for other goodies. How about steering and bars?
I would also want to make sure you have the right pitch prop in there. The wrong prop will kill performance.

good point about the steering, if it is stock then you can do some cheap mods to your turnplate and nozzle to give your ski quick steer. its a great mod for free.

I have read about this cheap "quick steer" mod, but never actually been able to find an explanation.

As for the Red Pipe, I was under the impression it would need to be welded, machined flat, drilled, and have steel sleeves inserted.

For the prop, I don't know if I am up to the task to taking it off..... Might need some assistance in that department.

i can get your prop off if your ever in the area but mario probably lives closer and he has big pipe wrenches and can swear at it just as good as anyone. they can be a real bitch to remove sometimes. the steer mod is two parts, the turn plate is the first. best thing is an aftermarket turnplate. they move the bars forward and the steering cable end out. i adjust this end first and ensure that i can turn the bars both ways without the cable running out of throw. i use the second last hole on my turnplate as i have kinked my cable using the last one.
The second part is the turn nozzle, it needs to be taken off and you have to grind the sides a bit so it cam turn more both ways and still clear the reduction nozzle. don't grind too much or else you will get blow by when the nozzle is turned fully either way. you also need to grind the nozzle in the section where the ball for the cable connnects. gring away so you can move the ball inward. center your bars up top and adjust the pumpend of your cable to get your steer nozzle straight and your done. if you don't buy an aftermarket turn plate a small little metal tab can be bolted to the existing cable ball hole and drill/tap a new hole to move the ball outward a bit. cheap ghetto move but it works. a new turnplate is the best way to go obviously but if you need to save money for other mods you can still have quick steer for free in the meantime.

So finally got into the garage today. Took out the Waterbox, and went to start taking off the stock SN bracket..... But, sadly, my asshole brother decided that earlier today his needs were greater than mine... Turns out he decided to take my tools.

So figured might as well get a head start on the turf.

SJ Build Winter 2010 015.jpg Starting Pic.

SJ Build Winter 2010 018.jpg Sides off.

SJ Build Winter 2010 019.jpg Decided to brand the under matting.... If you can't see it, its suppose to be X-H20

SJ Build Winter 2010 021.jpg Rough job.

SJ Build Winter 2010 022.jpg Razor blade clean... Will wire brush later in the week. Didn't have one on me.

SJ Build Winter 2010 026.jpg Random, but is the tray usually have one indent larger than the other? Should I attempt to fix that when/if I refoam?

SJ Build Winter 2010 025.jpg Last question, is that the inserts for the intake grate? Just wondering.

Received my Hazard bracket, but still figuring out what to use for a backing plate. Do I need one? I haven't actually looked to see what is existing down there... Would appreciate some general advice on the conversion. Thanks.

Chopped the RN pole today, sanded it down, and gave it a paint job. Turns out my cold cellar isn't as air tight as I thought, and now the whole house stinks like paint... Lesson learned. Will take some pictures once it is dry.
