Media flow machined manifold

So we sent a kawasaki exhaust manifold into to be media flow polished. It came out awesome and we are very happy with the result

For 4-stroke Engines, a polished surface with minimum roughness improves flow and horsepower. And it works because the Exhaust Gases only flow ONE way.

But with the 2-stroke Exhaust, some of the un-burnt Fuel-Oil Mixture and Exhaust dwells in the Manifold and Head Pipe and then goes back into the Cylinder. That Fuel-Oil Mixture needs to remain mixed. In other words, the Lubricating Oil must not drop out of the Mixture, so a certain amount of Surface Roughness is needed to create Turbulence to keep that Fuel and Oil mixed.

The question is: What is the ideal Surface Roughness for a 2-Stroke Exhaust? Any Lab or Real World tests to show the polished exhaust is best for a 2-Stroke? Same Engine, all things the same except for a polished exhaust: was there an actual measured performance gain? Higher speed? More Torque? More RPMs?

Just want to know, if for 2 strokes, it's just a lubrication/lean need or if the gains peak at the polished level....

Good question. A two stroke will actually make more power if you have a mismatch between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder smalls into bigger. It stops the reverse flow of exhaust gasses. This was proven in 125 race bikes in the old two stroke Gp days. The exhaust port volume on the superjet cylinder is to large and I was designing a stuffer at one point to bolt up the exhaust port and to convert it to a kawi style exhaust manifold. I stopped as I realised no one would buy it like our heavy couplers. In regard to flow in the pipe. The Yamaha wakes up when you big bore the header pipe so yes the extra flow there helps
