Metal pump shoe advantage?

What is the advantage of using a metal pump shoe?
I am aware of the fragile nature of the stock plastic shoe. Are there any other upsides to the metal shoes?

That's sort of what I think :dunno:

I have a small chunk missing out of my pump shoe, but I am not sure that it's much of an issue. It's been that way for five years now.

I've broken 2-3 shoes before, having a metal one is a one-time deal for me, put it in and forget it.

Some of them hang down a little on the sides to help with hookup.

But rebar can do a number on a metal one as well.

I'm still running a 20 year old plastic pump shoe. I've broken an intake grate and the second one is already showing signs of damage (hitting branches and half sunken boats) but the pump shoe is still mint.
 
I bought a used SN where a part of the shoe ws broken missing , I epoxy fiberglassed it back and it held up for 5 years now...it was a cheap/fast fix

Too aggressive of a grate and running up on the beach a lot will destroy a plastic one. I have a jet dynamics in mine now. I wouldn't have changed it if the stocker didn't snap in half.
 
I have beached my ski 1000 times and landed about 900 flat backflips and no issues w/ my pump shoe... I have even broken my hull on the bottom even and nothing...

I guess I have gotten lucky then...??

yes, you are! And never look a gifthorse in the mouth! Btw, I had one trashed and put in the Blowsion one for 90 bucks I think.

I would certainly consider the metal pump shoe to be something that you upgrade to when the plastic one breaks or you get a new hull that needs one. I couldn't see me replacing a plastic pump shoe as a "just in case" thing. Granted I typically try to avoid areas where there is debris in the water. The plastic shoe in my SN has a crack in the bottom section of it...never even noticed a difference. The metal ones are kind of heavy too. Not enough to make a difference but certainly enough for you to do a double take when you lift it out of the box.

I ate it hard when my OEM shoe failed at WOT. It was caused by my stock intake grate loosing a screw up front (pump shoe theads). The extra drag the twisted grate was putting on the shoe ripped half of the shoe from the hull.

I went to the Aluminum one sold by snowxr ???, it went in easily. I havn't used it much as my flywheel went south soon after.


I certainly wouldn't remove a good stock unit to go aluminum.

I would've replaced with aluminum after that but I have to add that if the plastic didn't break, it most certainly would've either ripped the shoe out or ripped a huge hole in the hull. That's a big water brake if the intake grate comes off the front.

You can also install a small tab to your rideplate to hold the grate in if the shoe ever broke.
