Midshaft and Jet-Pump Rebuild Frequency

I replaced the midshaft once on my 94 fx-1. Pump has never been rebuilt. Ski is 28 years old now. Motor has been rebuilt once about 5 years ago.

I replaced the midshaft on the 1994 SN SJ about three-four years ago with a new one from JetManiac. I could see that the old midshaft rubber was cracked and IIRC it was even leaking.

I have never rebuilt a pump and probably won't know that a pump is bad until it explodes (assuming they explode). Probably I should learn how to determine out of tolerance play in the bearings, bushings . . .

They will last until the seals fail and the bearings rust. Some people can go 30 years and have no problem, others will destroy them in less than a season. An easy way to check is by sliding the engine forward and spinning the pump. It should be glass smooth and have some seal drag. Any noise means the seals have failed.
