Hi everyone,
I searched and found some good answers on how to rebuild this but......everyone has different recommendations.

I do not have a press
I do have a car jack, large sockets etc....

Any one give me some step by step instructions on how to safely rebuild my midshaft?? Step by step from removing the housing from ski - installing it with new parts??

The PDF manual does not give detailed instructions!

What parts will I need?

Thanks!

if you can figure out a way to hold that jack thats the same thing as a press. just DONT dont DONT put any impacting lateral force on the bearing.

1. pull battery box, gas tank, and disconnect exhaust so that the motor can move forward.
2.unbolt motor mounts and move the motor as far forward as you can get it. if theres still not enough clearance youll need to take out the motor. note where the shims go.
3.remove 3 bolts holding the housing to the hull and pull straight back off the driveshaft.
4. press the midshaft out of the housing/bearing. note how far it was pressed in.
5. pry the seals out(destroy them!) note how they sit in the housing.
6. press the bearing out, be sure its clean so the OD of the bearing doenst damage the housing when it slides out.
7.clean everything good and put some anti seize on the ID of the housing.
8.press new bearing back in press new seals back in liberally greasing them.
9.clean and anti seize press shaft back in to same depth as it was.
10. clean and inspect splines on driveshaft grease em up good.
11.reinstall and put the motor back on the mounts.
12. check that the couplers are properly aligned using a straight edge and tighten the motor mount bolts.
13. reassemble and ur done!

u do have a sj right? lol

Its an FX-1 that I will be doing this on!!

while still in the engine compartment will the housing slide out over the shaft or will the shaft come out with the housing???

Will putting the bearing in the freezer allow it to slide in very easy???

I noticed that there are seals on the engine side and jet pump side of the housing. Do all of them get replaced or just the engine side?? I noticed the rebuild kits only include seals fot the engine side of the housing!

i forgot about the c clips. those things are super strong so make sure you get hd c clip pliers.

just read my directions, the midshaft is pressed into the bearing/housing.
when i did it i didnt measure so im not sure on how tight of a press fit it is, i wouldnt expect it to make much of a differnce because it is tight.
a seal on engine side 2 seals on pump side, the kit says it includes everything? u looking at the right picture?

Well I took a look at my midshaft housing today on my 91 Superjet 650 and 1994 Yamaha FX-1.

The seem to spin smooth and seals look in good shape. I gave them a tug and a push and noticed a very very slight movement on both my skis.

Is slight movement normal??
If everything seems to be in good working order should I even bother rebuilding them???

I would like to post pictures of them in this form, how do I post pics???

On the FX-1 I have a grease fitting that I have not added grease too in 3 years!! I didnt even know what that hose coming off of the midshaft till a week ago.

How much grease and what type is recommended when adding ?? Does the grease get into the brearing ??

ive been told they really dont need grease added, the grease used during assembly is enough to last the life of the bearing and seals. its a sealed bearing so no grease is added to that.
those pics dont say nothing

I pumped some grease into mine last season and almost completely eliminated a bad cavitation problem I was having, so adding grease definitely has an effect.

Is this normal?? Does the seal look sunk in too far??? If so, How did that happen??

It spins free and has no play!
