midshaft coupler gap problem

my midshaft, intermediate shaft whatever...has a huge gap in it. I pulled it out and set it next to another stock one I have off another ski. Its definately been pushed in. I took it out and the rubber hammer method isnt working. Any other ideas??

hold the inner alloy housing and press the shaft as needed.
hammering on a bearing is a bad idea.

not necessarily true.

the couplers couldve been tight before a hard back-landing. then, bad motor mounts wouldve let the intermediate shaft push back without any damage to the bearing.

ski was back landed in daytona...a few times. I would put money the motor slapped it back. ill see about trying to press it.

Keegan, I had the same problem with my square. I wanted to fix this problem and at the same time install a kawi coupler.
I ended up making two spacers, 1 for each side of the coupler from aluminum. They are not thick enough to cause any problems.
This brought the two couplers together just right.
If you need some spacers made let me know.

I wouldn't put washer there, you have clearences so when you do a hard landing nothing else but a pushed in midshaft happens. Its a regular thing to have to adjust it, the yami service manual talks about the dimensions.

I had the same problem in OB and daytona.In OB for a quick fix i just dropped the pump and used some extensions and tapped in back up into place.Then when i got back from daytona i put it in a vice and used a rubber mallet and tapped it back into place.

I wouldnt put washers there either. There is still pleanty of gap for the motor to move around per yamaha's spec's.

I was "tapping" it pretty hard...it didn't move a bit! going to try to press it tomorrow night.

bigger hammer (sledge) or piece of hardwood plus a concrete block (weight is your friend)
