What price would you consider fair for labor only to build a new midshaft assembly from scratch? Install bearing, grease and install 3 grease seals, install grease nipple/hose, press midshaft, install orings, install coupler.

How about to rebuild a midshaft assembly? Remove shaft, remove seals and bearing, cleanup, install new bearing, grease and install 3 grease seals, press midshaft, install new orings.

What price would you consider fair for labor only to build rebuild a pump stator/driveshaft assembly?

Thanks in advance for your input.

I thought you gave me a great price to build my pump up.

The only thing I'd add is that I would think you guys can rebuild a pump/midshaft pretty quickly so a flat rate my be more appropriate. But Im not a business owner, and nor do I rebuild pumps and midshafts, so take it for what its worth. All i know is you saved me about a hundred bucks worth of tools I would have had to buy otherwise so Im a happy camper :)

good point about the tools . alot of people dont have access to the tools to complete these jobs.. Solvent tant , press, what not. so tht should be a factor in price. plus , the more time you do a job you will get faster and more efficent. so the later jobs would be cheaper than the first ??
i would lean towards a fixed price not hourly.

My local MX mechanic assembles my mid shafts for $30. (If I provide him all the parts, bearings seals ext). I believe he charges $100 hr shop time, but it only tkes him like 15 min to do one.

Having done a couple, it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to get the old bearings & seals out and put new parts in.

Cleanup? Well, that depends on how bad the housing is.

Free. I'll drop mine off in the morning.

If its agreed that it's a 30 min job max then I'd say say @ $50 max. I'll be one to say I don't agreeKm with flat hr rate min so many try to charge. If that's the case you'll get my biz once, and only once. Adding in cost of tools can be moot on most jobs to the consumer,I think of it this way. Should I expect to pay more since you don't have the correct tools and it took you longer than the manuals say?

To me it's one of those things you might want to suck up on to build a relationship with, but unfortunately across the services industry some don't agree and will find themselves struggling for biz.

Can go all day on this one either way but since you asked, how much DO YOU think it should cost?

My last two looked just like yours Dan. Mid shaft and coupler were all I could salvage. Get the rest of the parts at Greater Yamaha, spend your $40 to have it put togetther and your good to go.

What about an incentive pricing?

Say something like $30 to rebuild if we buy your rebuild kit. $40 if we supply the parts. Add an additional $10-$20 for really nasty midshafts like the one Dan posted due to the excessive cleanup effort.

my first question is,
are they still installed in the ski? or are these parts on the bench already. that makes a difference. but agreed on the midshaft half hr to 45 mins if its really nasty.

pump, 20 to 30 mins.
