650/X-2 Mikuni dual carb help!

2014-01-30 21.01.40.jpg Hi, I just picked up an 87 650sx with dual mikuni 60LL or 60CC (I cant see very well) carbs. I started it up with water running and everytime I hit the throttle, it bogs out like its too rich. Should I try to adjust the carb or will it run better once there is a load on it when I get it in the lake? Thanks a lot!

Did the previous owner say how long it had been sitting? If you can grab a better close up of the carb bodies themselves it will help ID them. Look like round body Mikuni BN's from what I can see. Probably need a cleaning/rebuild, not too hard to do luckily!

He ran it this summer, I talked to my dad and he said to just need to play with the fuel air mixture. I'm going to try that out. I'd really like to run the dual carbs, I think its a really cool setup that not alot of people have. I'll rebuild the carbs before summer starts too. Definitely would like to start wrenching on the ski.

Rebuild them and check jet sizes while they're apart. Get with someone who knows that motor on here and have them give you some jetting recommendations with your given mods. There are too many variables for us to tell you what to do with the given information here.

Dual carb on what look like a bone stock engine can be a little to much. If its the "round body" mikuni you don't have to many options, in the "square body" mikuni you can change the jets with more options. Round or square body carbs? Look on the side of the carbs, you either has a round housing with 6 screws or a square housing with 4 screws. Been there and done that, "round body" carbs look good on the book shelf. As kevbo said, get the newer stock carb or mikuni SBN 44.

I bet it had a pipe on B4 he sold it to you. you may want to ask the seller if at all possible. If you find out that he did remove a AM pipe, you may want to go with kevbo's suggestion
Find a stock 91-96 carb and manifold.

Pull the spark plugs and look at them for clues after it dies. It helps to start with a new pair sometimes. If they are wet then it could be getting too much fuel. If they look dry and brown, it may be just a clogged jet. Look for one plug that is different in color and appearance. Check this carb for things like a stuck needle.
