Minimal Ingredient Awesome Food Ideas

For those of you that like smoked food… here’s a thing. Sorry for the amzn link - the one I have came from a thrift store. https://www.amazon.com/LIZZQ-Premium-Pellet-Smoker-inches/dp/B09F99NLYL/

Fill it up with smoker pellets, light, wait, extinguish flame (start the smolder), add food to be smoked. You don’t cook food this way, just smoke it. E.g., a pork shoulder in smoke chamber for 1-2 hrs, then in crock pot for 8-10 hrs. Done. Smoked pork. I’m repeatedly told this is better than any smoked pork available in restaurants, which I agree. I’ve started smoking cheese, too, per the friend that gave me this smoke pellet tube. Super easy, and delicious. I used to use hardwood chunks over charcoal for the same effect ( https://www.x-h2o.com/threads/minimal-ingredient-awesome-food-ideas.203807/post-2127179 ) but this is much easier.

I typically add some OJ or apple juice to the crock pot, so I think that makes this two ingredients. Smoke could arguably be 3. Sauce or whatnot you add when eating doesn’t count.

Hashbrown casserole, I had this yesterday at the family reunion and it was awesome , this is a crock pot recipe. Throw everything in a crock pot, mix it up cook 1 1/2 hrs on high then another 2 1/2 hrs on low , pro tip you can substitute onion soup mix for the chopped onion to make it even easier , I usually have onion already chopped in the freezer so no big deal for me ..

  • 2 cups sour cream
  • 2 cups shredded processed cheese
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 (32 ounce) package frozen hash brown potatoes, thawed

This is another hash brown recipe but for breakfast casserole , you need a large Pyrex backing pan, line the bottom with frozen hash brown patties of frozen regular hash browns, top it with diced ham ,cooked and crumbled bacon or sausage . one chopped onion , one chopped bell pepper , mix up 5 eggs and two cups of milk season with salt and pepper , cook at 350 for about 30 minutes , you can pot it with shredded cheese and bake until it is melted if you like .

I usually have chopped onion and bell pepper in the freezer ready to go which makes it quick and easy.

Breaded pork chops , I take center cup pork chops dip them in a mixture of beaten egg and ranch dressing , I crush up seasoned croutons in a Ziplock bag add parmesan cheese , throw each dipped pork chop in and shake it , basically homemade shake and bake but better , put the pork chops into individual Ziplock bags and freeze them , that way you can cook them later or of course you can just cook then after you prep them.

Either way cook them at 350 for about 30 minutes flipping them once.

Freezing them allows you to make a really quick delicious meal when you really don't feel like cooking , add some instant mashed potatoes , rice or French fries and you are golden

Dr pepper meatballs .

This one is a holiday favorite , one package of frozen meatballs , 12 oz of Dr pepper, a small bottole of you favorite BBQ sauce , I use sweet baby Rays , dump everything in a crock pot , mix it up and cook for 2-3 hrs on high or 4 -5 hrs on low .

If I have meatballs left over you can freeze them for later use or what I do is make Spaghetti and meatballs the next day by adding a jar of sauce to the rinsed off meatballs and letting it cook on low most of the day.

One pan breakfast ,

use a Pyrex baking pan, spray it with pam , one whole package of Pillsbury grand biscuits , smash them together to cover the bottom of the pan ,put some pats of butter on top of the biscuits, on top of that put sausage patties about 8 of them , on top of that about 6 to 8scrambled eggs , if you like your eggs sunny side up you can just crack them and pour them on top , on top of that shredded cheese as much as you want, I would probably use the whole package , bake at 350 for about 20 minutes.

Stuffed breakfast bell peppers :

I saw this the other day when searching for different bell pepper stuffing ideas , il love stuffed bell peppers and I absolutely love breakfast so I had to try it.

Two to three bell peppers , they need to be able to stand up on their own , cut the tops off and remove the seeds and pith with a spoon , I used chopped up and fried link sausage , but you could also use chopped ham or cooked and crumbled bacon to put in the stuffing , use what you have available is my motto.

I also chopped up a tomato and put it in the mix, whisk up two or three eggs and add the sausage and tomato , stuff the peppers leaving some room at the top , add shredded cheese I used Colby - jack because that's what I had , use whatever you like.

In general 1 egg plus the other ingredients stuffs one bell pepper , but of course that depends on the size of your peppers , larger peppers may need two eggs per pepper ..

Bake at 350 for 30 -35 minutes , each of these recipes I put here I have already tried and I liked it or I wouldn't have posted it here.

I marinate steaks in Dr Pepper , it really doesn't need any more seasoning after that . I have also used half coca cola and half white vinegar before , that also works well .
If I ever meet you I'm gonna cook you a steak and you will see the error of your ways. Dr pepper steaks and no salt? wtf

I also thought this was crazy until my Mexican buddy did a London broil in a crockpot with dr pepper and it was really good.

I am cooking this one tonight , I did make some changes , no bacon tonight , I am in a hurry , also I thoroughly browned the tops of the hamburger bun bottoms before putting them in the pan, and I just cut thin slices of onion instead of chopping it up.. I also ditche the ketchup and mustard because I don't see the point of it with the chili .

Chili cheeseburgers with bacon and onion

Take hamburger buns and put just the bottoms in a baking dish , put hamburger patties on top of them , add chopped onions , ketchup and mustard , then slices of cooked bacon , over that pour chili , the recipe I saw was six burgers and two can's of chilli, I will halve that recipe , top that with shredded cheese , bake in the oven 30-40 minutes at 350 , take it out and put the top buns on, then use a spatula to cut around each burger and scoop it out , it should be quick , easy and delicious , how could it not be ?.

Making this one today :

Crockpot lasagna:

Lasagna noodles , cooked
hamburger meat 1lb browned
ricotta cheese , I am using cream cheese mixed with Colby Jack and Mozzarella , you can also use cottage cheese
spaghetti sauce , I am using homemade sauce today but any brand of sauce will work

I cook everything in the same pan, boil the lasagna , drain it, then I boil the hamburger meat to brown it , drain that , then I put the spaghetti sauce in the pan and add the hamburger meat. This way I only mess up one pan and one strainer .

Spray the crock pot with Pam cooking spray ,layer one layer of lasagna noodles , top with sauce, top with cheese, repeat till it is all used up , cook for 4-5 hrs on low setting .
I also added almost an entire bag of shredded sharp cheddar in with the layers of other cheese but you don't have to .
