In order of attendance, what are the most popular freerides in North America?
How about the rest of the world?

Thanks.

Not sure about the order, but I know the Daytona Freeride (Florida) and Blowsion Surf Slam (Oregon) are up there.

I would say the New York free ride......I counted 30,000 stand ups one year :)

Then Daytona...I think they may reach 2 or 3000...

VB is growin fast and now 2 per year.....and I imagine surf slam is pretty big.

Sounds about right Matt. We had 85 registered riders last year, I think Nick said something about 500 + this year at daytona. The junkies can comment but Id guess 100+ a 2010 wavedaze, not sure about surf slam

From what I've seen:

#1 Daytona: Averages 300 to 500 skis.
#2 Blowsion Surf Slam: I heard about 150 skis.
#3 Virginia Beach WaveDaze: I'll bet close to 100 skis and growing
#4 NY Team Xtreme Freeride: 80 Skis the first year! It's gonna grow fast with it being the only Lake Erie Ride! They get GREAT waves in the fall.
#5 Michigan Wave Rave: Average 50-75 skis for the past 7 years (not being promoted much anymore though, and shrinking), but a GREAT ride and they usually get great waves in the Fall!

Cleveland Rock N Ride used to get about 50-65 skis.

Too bad they couldn't get an Oceanside/SanDiego Freeride going in Pacific Beach. That would RULE.

There is also a yearly event on the Colorado River that gets close to 100 stand ups called BBSD. It is mostly a racer crowd with lots of buoy chasing but make no mistake. Lots of freeriding, shore carving, adult drinks, smack talkin, raffles and shenanigans than you can shake a stick at

All San Diego area beaches, including Pacific Beach and Oceanside Harbor are “public use Areas” and in order to reserve an area for an event such as a Freeride, it would require a special use permit. In the past the Cities have issued such permits but in recent years they no longer do so, ironically, due to low turn outs of past events. To my knowledge, several have tried to plan events recently but all have been declined. Bottom line is that more people are opposed to our sport than there are people who are for it. The surf riding area commonly referred to as Oceanside is actually in the Camp Pendleton Marine Base and is not subject to any City jurisdiction. Although it’s technically illegal to ride there, the Military does not enforce the “no riding area zone” so we have the most magnificent loop hole right here in the center of So Cal. Also you can forget about planning an event on the Marine Base, That area is reserved for Military use only

Im with DJ.

Although its huge yet, I think the Ocean City Maryland ride will continue to grow in the future, it is a laid back ride around the beginning of June at Cast aways camp site!

The last 2 October VB WaveDaze rides had 130+ skis. This year's April WaveDaze had over 100, but I do not know the official number yet. I would think we are third behind Daytona and Surf Slam as has been mentioned before.

I would like to add that its pretty cool imo to see us and the Lone Star Freeride have good numbers while on the same weekend.

I'm also looking forward to Ocean City, MD. My Bday is that weekend :beerchug:

ironically similar to VB. We have been blessed to get the permits needed to put on WaveDaze. However, in the summer time, we also usually ride off of Camp Pendleton (a national guard base) to avoid interfering with the surfing community and, more importantly, the local fuzz.
