Motor Suggestions for SJ?

Just found out I blew my top and low end on motor.

I'm looking to buy a rebuilt engine or looking to pick up a 701 for SBT.

Any thoughts on the SBT motors?

Where are you located? I have used motors not fresh but from running skis in IL. I have been told stay away from sbt but have never delt with them. Shawn

sbt is good for stock boats but if they get modded at all i personally would stay away from the.

For the crank use either OEM, Hotrods, or have the crank rebuilt with quality parts.

Pistons - I prefer Wiseco's but OEM and Pro-X are very good too.

Get quality gaskets too- cometic are nice and their are some guys on here selling good kits as well. Dont skimp on the crank seals though. Get OEM yamaha.

x2. if it's torn down anyway try to find the extra $$$ to get some porting doe. You will be blown away at how it wakes up your 701 and this is definitely the time to do it. Mark has suggested some good builders, and I'll throw in TLR who did a really nice job on my 701.

You could also look for a used, ported 701 to drop in there, but rebuilding the one you've blown is almost certainly your best option.

only problem is that its a 650 i would like to convert to a 701.

so do i need to cylinders?

You could buy a crank and a 701 top end, and build a frankenstein motor that could run fairly well. But once you're into it that far you could get 61x cases, too.

Ive got a 61X cylinder with a fresh .50 over bore. Comes with a brand new PROX top end that the bore was matched to.

im looking for 250 shipped for these parts. The cylinder is sandblasted now. I can paint it for you or leave it unpainted and you can paint.
