Surfriding Moving to the Daytona area, Who's there?

I'd post in the riding groups area, but the link is dead...

I'm tentatively planning on moving to the Daytona area in early Decemeber; and I'm so excited about it!! I'll probably wind up in the Ormond Beach or New Smyrna area, looking into Port Orange too. Who all rides in the area? Is everything surf riding or is there a group that rides flatwater too? I need to get my Phantom prepared to live in the salt!! #beachbum #sandeverywhere

The Daytona crew is solid but most don't post here much. I think most of the flatwater guys are closer or Orlando, honestly you'd have to be crazy to choose the lake over the ocean, especially in that area.

hurry down before they ban beach driving.

full disclosure, i'm a bit paranoid when it comes to the jet ski zone. but there is a ground swell of people who want cars off the beach and each time a kid gets run over they come out in full force. we just had a monster trucker run over a kid last week. no driving would most likely be the end of the beach zones from what i have been told. our saving grace is that the county doesnt have enough off beach parking yet to make removing cars feasible. but each accident like that brings it closer to a reality

Well, im spending a vacation week in Daytona and today i didnt even put my truck on the beach because i was going to be riding for an hour or so. I used my beach cart and went through the (closed) beach access ramp closest to the jet ski zone. Now...may be they decide to ban driving and the ski zone all together but honestly it would hurt Daytona economically quite a bit (not for the pwc zone of course but many folks go there to enjoy parking on the beach).

Spending another winter in Palm coast. Dec26-march26. Gonna ride as much as I can in the Daytona zone and some odd days at matanzas inlet. I would love to move to that area but being Canadian makes it difficult. See ya at freeride with everyone else

I would definitely recommend getting a Facebook and joining the Florida free riders page. They’re always doing roll calls and riding throughout the week and weekends.

Florida as well as Ga and Sc have riders that all get together at certain spots on Florida's east coast. The only reason I got a Facebook account was so I can meet up with other riders on surf days and it works really well. I think there is like 4-5 different rider groups based on each area of Florida.
For example, last Saturday was glassy and chest high all day long and about a crew of about a dozen riders from SC to St.Pete. Makes me wonder if Daytona was even open with a good surf report?

Daytona itself is very fickle anymore...when the surf is really cracking, a lot of times that is when the beach driving gets shut down for SCA - or beach safety will claim it is a SCA day. So having the NOAA up on a cell phone helps to dispel any BS SCA reason for closing. But when it is closed, those are the days we get together to ride out of the inlets. If there's any question that Daytona might not be open, we just do not even bother so we can focus on getting to a spot to go get on it because good clean surf is not normal for Florida and requires proper attention when it happens. Otherwise, it's a lot of washing machine action when there is any "surf".

I actually call the beach safety / life guard guys in Volusia before I head out to Daytona a day or so in advance to make sure they actually staff someone for the zone before I head out there. But I still get the yearly pass, and I still ride out there at least 5 or more times a year not including the freeride. It is nice to just launch right off the beach on nice warm day with a few riding buddy's' around - I think that's what makes the Daytona freeride what it is.

I ride all over the state of Florida - lakes, rivers, salt water creeks, inlets, beaches, the occasional state park, and any place I can fit an FX-1 into without creating too much unwanted attention!

Tons of places to ride all year long here no matter what part of the state you pick to live in!
CYA out there!
