has anyone ever seen or heard of a msd total loss brain burning itself down. Bought a brain on ebay installed it, made sure the ski started and headed to the lake. I started the ski at the lake to let it warm up and it shut off so I put it on my beach stand took the hood off to make sure every thing was all right, as I was looking around I started to here a hissing sound and then smoke started coming from the brain box, I rushed to my tool box to get something to unhook my battery. It scared the you know what out of me cause on my rickter my fuel tank sits right below the ignition. Now I'm fighting with the guy to give me my money back due to a faulty brain box.

Was there a fuse involved? Lot's of MSD's fail but a full blown meltdown should have been prevented by the fuse.

This just happened to my 6 year old brain. I blew the fuse. Thought it was a bad fuse holder. Bypassed fuse. Started ski. Drove 4 hours north for a weekend of riding. Went to start my ski the next day at the ride, no start, hissing and smoke and then liquid black ooze out of the red black and violet wire hole. Had to buy a new brain. My buddies did this same thing 8-9 years ago too.

Yes it had a fuse, but starting it at home then get it on the water and not even 1 ride out of it.

had a sim issue,got lucky,check your red and black wires right out the grommet,mine were worn and 9/10s broken inside,my own fault,I had the wires very tight to one side in a dry box. Id think if they were bouncing around it would be worse. its best to secure the wires somewhere solid a inch or so outside grommet,same goes for pickup wires.5200 them to the side of the plate for vibration control. lesson learned. always run with a fusible link.

I took a chance and picked up a used Enhancer back in 2005/2006 from a trusted member. I later thought my MSD had crapped out so I swapped it out to the used on. Still running the used one to this day and my original from 1999 is still good........ Go Figure!

the good ones seem to last forever,I have a 10 yr old msd tl and even older enhancer that worked when I sold it in my SJ. luck of the draw i suppose
