Super Jet msd TL issues

My TL is acting up again. it seems like when the ski gets warm, it looses spark in one cyl. if I fire it up from cold, the spark looks good in both cyls, but when I run it for a min or so then pull the plugs again, I notice the spark on the back cyl looks weak. at first I thought it was a pick up, but it still has spark. so maybe a coil? any thoughts?

I would guess a coil, I have had a few that would only act up when they got to a certain temperature.

Have you checked the gap between pickup and flywheel? I know Superjetjiim had some similar issue with his MSD TL. and adusted the gap between pickup and flywheel, and now its all good again?

Yep, it was that and a duff spark plug. Change both plugs out first..

My gaps could be off.. If they were off would it sometimes work tho? Or just never work...

did you ever find the issue with this? I have this issue too. rear cylinder as well, sent my pick up coils in and they came back fine. what did you find?

Had a similar problem, turned out to be a bad brain. Replaced coils to no effect. Also, make sure all of your grounds are strong.

I just had this problem with my ski. Would run fine with no load. In the water back to one cylinder. I pulled my flywheel and one of
My pickup wires was rubbed down to bare wire grounding out losing signal. Patched it up, works great now.

yea for sure and I have seen where a channel has also been known to die. But since they are setup for triples you can use the "spare" channel to see if that fixes the problem

I had this problem several times, was always a broken wire to the pickups.
Once the wires warmed up they became more flexible allowing the fault to open up.

yep i had a bad pick up, replaced it and it has been sik as tits since.

Regrettably, MSD does not use tinned, finely stranded wire. Be advised to tie down the pick up wire securely. RTV is quick and lasts. Hear me now and believe me later.

i did the same thing, I even poked new holes in my wire grommet to put them further away from the fly wheel and put a little rvt back there to keep em in place

Also, please note that small threaded hole- about 10 o'clock position on the backing plate. There is a clamp keeping the wires in place.
