Try a temporary earth straight from the battery to the box.
I haven't had msd tl for years , but I'm pretty sure you can't just short the green pickup to get a connectionor a spark.its not a reed switch

shouldnt be too hard to fix...first thing, put your ski on top of the washer/dryer

I may try a new pickup, i have heard of them going as well. Will the newer pickups work with this older MSD TL system?

Yes, the pickups didn't change.

If you already tried shorting the pickup wires on the brain side and didn't get spark that way, then replacing the trigger isn't going to help you.
