Freestyle MSD Total Loss or Power Factor Pipe?

Which would you buy first? Digital dual channel MSD TL or a Power Factor Pipe? I'm running a 89mm bore billet DASA 4mm stroker engine in a super jet. Currently have a MSD enhancer, lightened flywheel and B Pipe.

Thanks!

I'd say total loss because timing/tuning is a pretty big factor with the PFP

Edit, Not to mention you can keep your stock tank in there in the mean time.

Thanks for the advice so far. I was leaning towards the MSD but everyone keeps saying how great the power factor is, so I was considering that option as well. Any one ride both set up's, pfp and charging system vs. b piped TL on same size engine/hull? Sounds like I wouldn't get the full benefits of the pfp till I had TL anyhow?

You really need a programmable ignition and high compression to make that pipe shine.

I'd say depends on your riding. If need fuel capacity then PFP may limit you. TL is a kick in the pants on any motor (a safer bet for instant proformance ). I disagree on the pfp giving instant "peek" proformance on any set up. One thing to take in consideration with PFP other than the timing curve is your prop pump set up.

My vote is TL first. If you do a proper soldered install TL is not unreliable in fresh water conditions.

Properly installed, TL is as reliable as a stock ignition.

TL is one of those things you actually read the instructions... 5 times, then maybe even call a friend.

Charging the battery can get annoying from time to time but otherwise, its pretty nice to have.

Agreed, maybe for the first year... a 10 year old TL is going to give one a :):):):) load more problems than a 10 year old PFP.
PFP also wont stress the motor like advancing the timing. Bottom line is upgrading a pipe is more reliable than upgrading electronics. That what I'm conveying.

I've been running the same total loss system for 3-4 years now. I had a wiring problem ONCE.
I've been running the PFP for only one season and it put my ski out of commission (for very short periods) a number of times. Nearly every time it was my own fault, though. I didn't get the foam block alignment quite right and the chamber slipped off the manifold a few times. The chitty chamber coupler that ships with the pipe also broke once.

So no - I don't think one can categorically state that "upgrading a pipe is more reliable than upgrading electronics".
Do it right and they're both good to go.

I'd agree with both parts as far as maintenance goes. You will need to be accurate with your support and securing of the PFP. And, it's not a install and forget it piece either. It will require a bit of tuning, both engine and pump. I've had my chamber pop loose multiple times already.

I've had plenty of "growing pains" with TL as well. You will save lots of headache and heart ache with buying a new TL system. A previously run TL system will only function as well as it's original builder/installer if you're gonna try and use they're setup. I've used the old analog TL's, the single pickup digitals and the dual pickup digitals and all three work fine...as long as your are particular about the connections (solder or use Deutsh connects) and the grounding.
