msd Total loss ?

I am putting together a ski, on the cheap. I have a lot to do before i put together the TL; however, I have a question.

I can not find instructions for analog TL. But the other directions seem to be able to spell it all out.

QUESTION:

I am unsure of exact location of the trigger plate. I know it ment to be in the 4 oclock position. I can see the old screw marks on the trigger plate where it was mounted previously. Also I see a scribe mark on the plate. I also see a arrow(mark) on the cases. I assume when these marks are aligned this it TDC? Or exactly where the trigger plate is ment to be fixed.

The trigger in the 4 oclock position and the trigger plate old screw markings in the visible old locations and the scribe lines are marked up. Does this sound correct?

Thanks.

from what i know , the trigger plate has to be set a number of degrees BTDC - this is set up as part of the installation. I think it would be risky just to use the screw marks the previous owner had used - his set up could be totally different than yours.

Yeah, I'm sure your correct. I need to look into it more. Read more, maybe call msd. But I figured people on here with knowledge on the subject could just give me a simple answer to save me the trouble.

i think the picup is on the other side on mine, dont think it matters because there are two magnets on the anolog systems

i would say if you mark your TDC with the light on the box you'll be good to go

Keith - Thank you, although I will hold out for now. I have all the other msd instructions with the theory. I will wait and see if anyone informed here can help me out.

the best way to find TDC is with a dial indicator through your spark plug hole. You also need a degree wheel. take a piece of bendable wire and bolt it to your case. once you find TDC set the wire to 0 degrees on the degree wheel. turn your motor over untill you see the light on the msd box go on. look at the degree wheel and that will tell you what the advance is on your stator plate. adjust accordingly....you prolly want something around 30 degrees advance. but i think the analogue systems have something preset that removes 5 degrees by itself...

Download the single channel P/N 4272 instructions off MSD's website. It's not analog specific but it will help you out quite a bit.
