I bought an old superstock ski last weekend with the MSD multi-channel TL P/N 2530.
I tried installing it on my current engine. Following the MSD install PDF, I found TDC on #1 and proceeded to set-up using the LED with spark off. I set static at 25 on #1, and rotated to check #2 pick-up and it was at 29?? So I have an approximate 4 deg difference between the pick-ups according to the LED.
I thought "CRAP the crank is twisted", so I re-installed the degree wheel, set everything up at TDC on #1, then went looking for TDC on #2, it lined up perfectly with #1 according to the degree wheel and piston stop.
So my question is: Is it common for the pick-up plates to be off? Can they even be adjusted? it's a used set-up, but the pick-ups appear to be un-molested. Should I attempt to get the pick-ups to 180deg. or am I chasing the wrong problem?
