My College 'Rig'

I'm from Colorado and recently started my freshmen year at Utah State, and I figured what the hell I may as well bring my ski. So my dad helped me make a hitch hauler from a harbor freight hitch tray (overall cost was under $100). Before I left for USU I just had time to more or less finally complete my itty-bitty 650sx with everything I had ever wanted to do on it. Figured I would share. :wavey:

Nice! What's with your pole though, it looks crooked? lol

Which part? What you would consider the "chinpad" got bent a few weeks back and then straighten, but I don't have access to welding equipment here so I can't fix it properly and reinforce it.

You've got the craziest pole I've ever seen dude! Sweet rig for sure

Thanks, worked with the budget and materials I had.

whats the reason for mounting the bars so low? nitrous on the ski is pretty gnarly!

The top section is so long so that the bracket that grabs the steering cable wouldn't have to be mounted inside the tubes.

Where are you storing it? Last year was my freshman year and I bought two skis while I was there. I had to haul a x2 and 550 up a narrow flight of stairs to get to my second floor room lol

I just leave it on the back of the 4Runner. Over the summer I installed a pair of air bags in the rear coils to help with the weight of the ski and so the rear coils don't get warn out from holding the ski until winter break. And if I had to, I could probably drop the ski off in the engineering workshop.

Any videos of that thing in action? Thats one sweet 650

No, I want a gopro but it's out of my budget currently.

I don't know if leaving it on the back of your truck for the whole year is a good thing. Theft, drunk driving, chitty campus police, vandalism, just to name a few reasons to find a safe place for it.

That is a crazy engine/pole set up for sure.

Yea, I've thought about that. The ski is locked to the hauler, and that's locked to the truck. And the truck is 50 yards and visible from my dorm so I can watch it; though if this was any other campus I wouldn't leave the ski on the truck, though the theft/vandalism on campus is next to none as is the general city of Logan and has ranked in the top 3 cities in the US for safety for the past couple years as I recall (all the Mormons I think).

i guarantee that at some point in the year either with a group of your drunk buddies or a group of your drunk buddies minus you will take that ski and drop it into the first river pond pool that is in sight especially if you campus has any of those. not a good idea to leave it so accessible. I know i would do it if a jet ski was being stored on a hitch hauler the entire semester.

I doubt it, everyone is Mormon in Utah so no one drinks or does drugs more or less and that's not adding to the fact it's a dry campus. I understand why everyone thinks its a bad idea, but due to the school and locals, I don't see it happening.

nice my cousin lives there and he needs riding buddies.

Is he on the X? I haven't seen any other standups, usually just me and this other guy go and swap off riding.

Good luck with leaving it on the back of your truck.............. Mormon in Utah or not...I think you are setting yourself up for some loss.
