My experience with SBT warranty

Had a steer cable failure on my SJ so I ordered a replacment from my local sbt dealer. Threaded it through the pole, looked at it in the engine bay and the crimp totally slid off the cable cover. I figure no big deal I'll email sbt and surely they replace the cable because it was clearly defective. Wrote a detailed email, took detailed photos, sent my receipt in and waited for a reply.

They replied how it couldn't of happened during install, how they haven't had anyone warranty a square nose cable in 10 years and that they didn't even beleive I ordered it from my local dealer even after me sending the invoice and my dealer speaking to them directly. They refused to do anything about it, cliff watkins the warranty manager even acused me of trying to warranty a cable that wasn't even from them and said he couldn't prove it was even sbt.

I know they aren't the best cables but oem was 3x the wait for me. I figure for the $100 they would want to keep a customer instead of spending days going back and forth dodging a warranty claim.

Something to think about before sending your money to a company who doesn't stand behind their products.

send it back to the dealer you bought it from. That is part of why you buy thru dealers.
SBT already denied me and the dealer. SBT said they didn't have records of selling this cable to my dealer when he's clearly an sbt disdributor and has been for 8+ years. Even though there were sales records and documents proving the sale. SBT basically told me I can't prove it was even an SBT cable and there's nothing they can do for me.

That's ridiculous. My friends and I all avoid SBT and stories like yours just reinforce the fact why we don't deal with them. If they just were honest and stood behind their warranty, they wouldn't have such a bad reputation. I wonder if you could bring this up to someone in your local government and get them involved.

SBT's time has come and gone, they know and we all know it, which is exactly why they have moved onto other ventures such as buying out Hydroturf and their 4XPRO ATV and UTV axles, they started out in the CV axle business years ago, I see a lot of sideways moves and branching out from them lately.

that sucks! Contact push-pull.com and have them make you one with an extra 3/8" of throw.
Sorry to hear about this @Lumberjack and sorry to thread jack, but @Quinc can you elaborate on this a bit? I’ve always thought about calling them to order trim and steering cables. Extra throw would be huge for me. Do they know off the bat what I’m talking about if I call and say I need a super jet cable with extra throw or do I need to go take detailed measurements of the cable and give them all the specs?

Great question. There is a new guy running the shop now so I am not sure if he still has all of the notes and measurements from the last guy or not. They also make the trim cables for a few big name companies so if you order one of those trims they would know by name.

Literally have posted like 10x on here that push pull makes cables that I designed with extra throw and extra length in order to be rebuilt multiple times. Can lead a horse to water they say

That being said. I just bought a new cable. Oem superjet 06 07 for 110 dollars.
