SX/SXi/SXi Pro My first build/first stand up

Decided since I have never ridden a stand up and have never worked on a jet ski or rebuilt a 2-stroke I would kill a couple birds with one stone. Started buying parts and a hull about 3 weeks ago and they have slowly started to come in. I got a 750sx hull with no motor or ebox but had just about everything else.

So far I have ripped the motor all apart to do a full rebuild found some pretty nasty wristpins that wouldn’t allow the pistons to even rock on the rods. There was of course and still is lots of cleaning to do before she gets put back together. The new pistons are on order and all that is left I believe is to track down a chin pad.

Some of the stuff that will be going on:
Sbn44 carb
R&D intake
Ocean pro air filter
D-cut ride plate
New .75 over pistons with a fresh bore and hone

I am open to all suggestion. Tips, Tricks, or just anything you think a newbe might need to know.

That is a great SP motor you have there-- those lime green heads gave the most stock compression on a stock SP motor. In addition to the Mikuni, I would also keep an eye out for a 42mm Keihin (I think there is one in the classifieds right now), they use a stock bored out manifold and are SUPER easy to tune in. I have one on your same motor in an X2 of mine and it rips. They are a great bang for the buck. Get the Keihin and save your money for a pipe.

Well just got the call from the shop (Lakes Motorsports Waterford Mi) today that the jugs would not clean up at .75mm over so they have to go up to 1mm over and instead going and getting the pistons and shipping them back and then waiting on the new ones to come in they are going to take the .75mm WSM pistons (that I didn’t order from them) and let me trade them in for some WISECO 1.0mm piston with some money on top of course. Instead of waiting 2 more weeks to play shipping games and returning the .75mm pistons from where I bought them. Should have everything back from the shop on Friday and hopefully assembly will go well and just have to find some torque specs for everything!! Then hopefully “poppin my stand-up cherry this weekend”

I finally go the jugs back on Friday afternoon and of course went home to start assembly. She went together without much of a problem. Came back out Saturday hoping to drop her in and fire her up but came to a bump in the road when I realized I did not exhaust gasket that go on the U shape pipe that goes from the manifold to the muffler. Those gaskets are on order and will be here Wednesday. So with any luck I will be able to get her in the water this weekend. I also put on my new grips. I had to cut the bar ends off as you can see from the pictures they had flanges on the ends of the. Those stock grips did not want to come off!! Had to just about cut and scrap every little bit nothing just pealed up.

And it begun

Finally got her started up and in the water! I am having a problem with the front cylinder over heating? I have not had a lot of time to really dig into it and see what the problem is but I do know that cooling system is working because I am getting water coming out of the pisser. I am going to pop the head off and see if maybe some of the passages ways are blocked off somehow but with all new gaskets on the whole motor I am not really sure how that is possible. If anyone has any ideas what it could be I am all ears.
