Super Jet My First RN Build - Complete rebuild, shorten, and rocker!

FYI - My top deck has been shortened significantly, and I end up with a nozzle in an area that isn't so nice. I may extend my tray back a bit.

I was thinking of shortening the tray and gunwhales like 2" to match the 2" I would cut off on the bottom, then angle the bottom forward to give 4" shorten. See below:

Well I didn't get everything done that I wanted to, but I made good progress. Tray is cut out and defoamed. Just need to clean it up so that it's ready to reinforce with carbon. Hopefully tomorrow I'll decide on gunwhale shape and cut those and finish cleaning the tray area. Maybe lay down a couple layers of carbon over the pump and fill the bond lines.

Thanks guys! It was a ton of work sand blasting and a long wait to get it painted but I'm super stoked with how it turned out. Now I gotta finish porting the cylinders then send off to get bore and hone then fully assemble. That will be one glorious day!

@Mud-Nut: I was definitely hoping for a brighter blue with less gloss. It was supposed to be flat but came out more satin and darker than intended but Im pretty happy with it. Its gonna look awesome up against the carbon engine bay when its done :)

More progress! Started the rocker and trimmed off the 90 degree part of the bond rails all around and sanded flat. They will be extended about an inch then have a 45 degree flange off instead of a 90. Also did a ton of sanding.

Didn't really like the look of the rocker at this point, too stubby. So I cut two more slots and trimmed the nose to be a smoother transition instead of ramped.

Then I decided I wanted to move the pole forward 4" so I trimmed out the recessed section in front of the existing pole mount. I'll eventually extend that pole mount forward and make a cleaner cutoff as close to the pole as possible instead of requiring a separate nose cover like OEM.

This week/weekend I hope to get my cylinders sent out for bore and hone. Then get my reduction nozzle and flywheel sent to Zero for boring and lightening respectively. In addition I'd like to get my rocker finalized and slots cabosiled and a layer of glass down to hold the rocker in place for now. Currently working on ideas for a custom see thru ebox enclosure as well.

Cut out my handle pole mount area so that I can move the pole forward 4".

Then I decided to remove the liner from my hood to see how low I can make it. Think I may make a custom hood but that will be after everything else is done and ski is in the water.

You made the same mistake I made..... Bit off more than you can chew, and now you don't get to ride this summer. Haha! :p

Looks good!

That is my worry lol. This weekend I will be putting in a good 16-20hrs on the ski so hopefully I can make a good dent. Here's my goal this weekend:
- finish prepping engine bay
- finish cabosil on rocker sides and fill bond lines.
- lay down 2-3 layers of biax on the rocker inside
- layer of biax on outside of rocker
- sand down and finish rough shaping the rocker and nose
- shape and set up about 4 layers of biax for the pole forward mount and glass the top deck to the bottom at the rocker
- lower and move gunwales forward (decided against widening the tray out to the bond rails)
- maybe get a couple layers of glass laid in the angled shorten at the rear of the hull.
- and if everything goes phenomenally (which is unlikely lol) make some foam shapes to get the rails widened

Had a fairly productive weekend but as always, wish I got more done...

Cabosil'd my right bond line and glassed that wall front to back.

Blocked off the inside of the nose and fuel fill area then foamed with 2lb two part from uscomposites.

Sanded and shaped the nose to my liking :)

Cut the gunwales off and prepped to lower them 4".

Cut out templates and cut 1208 biax for the nose. Laid 1 layer of biax just to get the shape for now.

Mixed up some epoxy and microballoons and filled most of my engine mounts, I'll finish those up later.

Buddies garage was a little cool for curing at 66 degrees thanks to AC so I popped a 500w halogen work light in the hull and closed everything off to get everything warmed up.

Cut out some templates for the left side and inside the nose and called it a night.

Hopefully tomorrow and Tuesday I can clean up the inside of the nose, cut out some more templates and lay up the entire engine bay and reinforce the nose.

Nice work!

Why did you fill the engine mounts like that? I've never seen that done before. I can only assume to add strength, but I didn't know the engine mounts needed strength added to them?
