I'm already liking the sound of those 90's colors......then again, if you remember how I painted the wife's SN then you already knew that LOL!

I could custom paint this but I may not be keeping it so I have to look at it from that aspect.

I have found a couple of graphic sets that could work and narrowed it down to these three, yeah yeah I know I have a long way to go before graphics but I would rather go ahead and buy them now so I have them when I need them.

LMK what you think I wish I had a pic of the first set on a ski but I think it is the graphics in the last pic .

I have contacted the guys in the second pic to see if I can swap the green for purple , these will be going on a Yamaha teal hull.

I also like the OEM graphics in the third pic but I would paint those on changing the colors to silver and purple as I already have the paint in those colors it would me money wasted to buy those IMO , I would of course have to by the Yamaha and Superjet emblems.

My vote is OEM (retro) look with your custom colors you already have but maybe break up the colors like on the old school wr500............

Using a variety of tools I erased the the stock steering cable holder from existance , a hacksaw, vice grips and flap disc on the grinder and a large flat file did the trick, it will have to be relocated but I will be using a 440-550 cable holder and drilling and tapping the hamdlepole to mount it like I did on the 300SX build , just on the opposite side of the pole.

I actually did that on the STS I built earlier this year.

The guys in the second pic will do a color change to purple instead of green at no upcharge I don't think those Blue graphics are gouing to show up well on a teal ski, could be wrong though.

Did some work on the steering, on the 300SX I drilled a hole through the tube and ran the cable through it so here I did the same, I also drilled and tapped the piece I fabbed up earlier , the ball need to mount a little lower so I got one off of a GP800 which has longer threads, I used a thin nut off of a steering cable and spaced it down a small amount then lastly I clearanced the steering plate a bit. The steering hits the stop right before the steering arm with maybe 80 thousandths to spare so the clearance is spot on.

Sanding, sanding and more sanding , this part sucks.

Every damn standup I have done lately has crappy paint that has to be totally removed , BTW this Metton sucks , give me SMC any day of the week over this crap , it sands funky it's messy and it weighs a ton , this is one heavy a$$ pig of a hull even with the aluminum handlepole.

Maybe this is the ski I need to give the wooden look , I mean hey it's already brown. .
Paint job on my first SJ:

Then throw that purple in there instead!
Kinda hard when there is an orange right there on the decal ! at any rate , he sent me the revised graphics with the changes I asked for, I believe we have a winnah !

BTW these guys are great to work with and the graphics are more than reasonable.

F the 180 , I am using 60 grit on the DA as I will be spraying with high build Urethane primer, I was using 80 grit and it was taking way too long , I want some serious tooth to hold the primer on , then the primer will hold the paint on , the way Yamaha did this paint is ludicrous and the black paint someone sprayed on top of it was just nasty.

I am probably doing a color change as well I just remembered today that I have almost a full Quart of Yamaha Teal in Nason polyurethane , it's one of my favorite Yamaha colors, I am thinking Teal ski with a white bottom and maybe some purple accents.

This hood in the pic below is Yamaha teal.

Yes, yes and yes. I recently listened to an interview with Neil "Neilski" Bollmann and he says that he always used 60 grit on skis and then hit them with epoxy primer. I had no idea you could get it that rough and then spray the primer but it totally makes sense. The epoxy will fill all the scratches and hold extremely well. This ski looks great, I love the nose on this thing!!! Really great work

Thanks, a friend of mine ordered that Carter B rockered nose for his RN along with a bunch of other parts then he promptly broke his leg on the ski .

His old lady wanted the ski gone so I helped him unload all the goodies but no one wanted the rockered nose so I got it cheap , with no install instructions I might add , I just had to figure it out as I went along.

This thing had some really weird marks in the Metton surface below all the paint , if it was a gelcoated ski I would say it spidercracked but it's not cracked so not sure what it is , I am going to fill it , prime it and call it good some of it sanded out while removing the paint and some of it is still there. , the starting condition of tyhis ski was really rough.

I just really that you kept the bond rail around the nose. I personally can’t stand the look of the Carter nose where people just chop the rails and leave them.

If you go back and look initially this didn't have a bond rail, I agree I didn't like the look of it either but more importantly the newer Carter B nose pieces have a splash lip made into them , this one didn't and I can't stand a ski that splashes water in your face everytime you ride it so it had to happen.

To me the nose looks more like a Superfreak now which is a good thing.

Going a different route on covering the handlepole , for some reason the glass didn't stick to the cover properly, it started with a few air bubbles but once I started poking around it got worse and worse to the point where I was able to pull the whole thing off , even the part that was over Bare SMC.

I just don't want to start over with that , too much sugar for a dime IMHO.

Anyway I am going with plan B which is to make a Carbon fiber plate to cover the top of the pole with using the material in the photo below for the top layer and regular twill on the backside to build up about 1/16 to 1/ 8 thickness .
