My thread. Rickter, Stunt hull, BOB, random stuff.

Just my random thread.

My Rickter is running great again. What was once a barely get a tank of gas through it before problems show up ski is now a reliable thirsty boat. Last year problems of cracking R&D chambers weren't possible in the Rickter because the pipe would not physically fit. I ran a b pipe for a bit. But snatched up a carbon chambered Power Factor pipe. For those that have listed over these.....don't bother. It cracked almost immediately. It was replaced with the more reliable aluminum chamber that turned out to be just 2.5 lbs heavier. My ski sounds mean again. I knew something was wrong with the carbon chamber when my ski kept getting quieter and quieter as more water was leaking into the exhaust from the outer jacket.

My old black Wammer ski is now Christin's ski. I dropped a 5mm able motor into it. She hasn't ridden it yet (water is too cold for her still). It has SRE carbs that are almost identical to Blackjacks. The $$$$ carbon R&D chamber that wouldn't fit my Rickter is still with that ski. It runs pretty good. Great top end. But a little soft on the bottom. Right now it has a Hooker 13/17 or 12/17 prop. Maybe I need to down size it a bit to get the rpm range correct?

Enough about my stuff. How about these new budget hulls on the market. Pretty cool stuff. I was excited about the Stunt.....until I read a few build threads. Then I started reading ride reports that they are super twitchy and dump you off above ~20mph? That's a bummer.

The BOB looks cool. I like it a lot. The videos make it look pretty stable. I'm not real keen on the BOB graphic on the side. Not sure I'd want to explain to everyone that it's my "budget" ski. I'd call mine SCS = Ski Clinic Ski.

Lone Star Freeride was awesome. I want to move to the ocean now. One good trip to the surf and flat eater seems dull. It's not that it's dull. It's that o have to try so much harder to pull off a trick. I have to carry more speed. Physically move my body more. Use all the power I can make and sometimes I still crash and burn. That probably says more about my lack of skill than anything.

How is it that I managed to charge into a 6 foot wave and attempt a backflip (and get 15 feet of air) but I am scared to commi like that off a 3 foot boat wake?

I had the same issues with the BOB graphic on the side of my ski. I may remove it. I haven't decided yet. I don't think of it as a budget ski because I have sunk a TON of money in it and the fit and finish looks to rival the more expensive hulls.

The Good Old Days
The BOB sure did get a few people thinking and a few more take notice.
There's one due to arrive in my neck of the woods in a few weeks. Can't wait to see how it rides our washing machine sloppy surf.

I'd agree with ATS about the ski's. Out of nowhere there has been an explosion of options for aftermarket hulls from ho-hum SJ remakes to completely custom freestyle hulls. I wish I'd just now been getting into standups cuz' I'd be all over a BOB. The Highroller option sounded great a year ago, but he needs to get right on the finished product. Waternut has his nearly dialed in, but he's been through hell getting there...and no matter the price the final product shouldn't need "serious" body work to look decent. You can skimp on some things but the final product shouldn't need a ton of work to look good. I've ridden the 'roller hull and it's fine when it gets finished. I didn't feel like it was gonna pitch me off. I could care less about going much faster than 20-25 mph anyway. Waternuts ski will get out of the water in a hurry (a ported 701) and you can get the rear end loose super easy to slide it around when you're setting up your own wakes. I love the wide tray. However, I'd been all up in Highroller's as* if he sent me some of that half baked chit he has sent out to others. There's no call for that. If you can make it then make it well, otherwise don't bother. BOB on the other hand appears to be how a product should be finished. I have no idea as to the hull's performance, but their business accumen seems to be light years away from 'roller. With the other nicey-nice hulls (Trinity, Rickter, Lenzi, etc.) I could only dream of a product like that. Nothing I do warrents a ski so slick and pricey for me, but for the select few who have the cheese and the skills to deserve a cadillac the by all means...make the rest of us drool.

Graphics on the BOB are totally optional. You don't have to have them if you don't want them. Most of the orders have requested graphics, which is definitely keeping me busy, but a few have decided that they don't want graphics with their hull. A custom ski should be custom, and the graphics/ exterior look is no exception.

I saw this all unfold IT WAS KILLER Aaron. It was a highlight of LSFR for me 15ft off the lip and a 20ft on the backside Very Nice

My Lightwieght Revalation
For the record I could not be happier with my Superfreak/Stock stroke Lamey set up
Fit And Finish second to none
I have burned about 15 gals thru it and have no issues Granted the motor and TL were run last year in a diffrent ski
I know from past hobbies that equiptment can make a real difference I for one saw guys on lightwieghts doing BF and Rolls at ease So in my feeble mind I thought the day I put this ski on the water I would be a BF guru Not the case for me This is the first lightwieght hull I have been on.What a diffrence Its like learning to ski all over again.I am getting flat water rolls down and chased my first cruiser with out getting tossed. The rolls off cruisers are sick and get twice the air as my Super jet.The problem came in chasing back thru the 4 ft chop back to clean water. The ski gets pushed around and launced at all the wrong times .I for one like the edgy ride its a challenge every time ride now and Made flat water fun again for me.

I know its been said a 1000 times the ski doesn't make the rider .This is true but its Sure fun to be on ski well over my skill level. It also opens the door for throwing down some real entertaining crash and burns for your your Buds to laugh at.I also know its all up to ME and not the haunting excuse If I had better Bla Bla Bla I could do that.

THANKS LARRY!! That really made my day.

Graphics on the BOB are totally optional.

Thanks DK. Your attitude and support for the BOB has been great. I hope someone near me will buy one and that I would get a chance to try it out.

Thats beautiful Aaron , someone did a great job on that red carbon /kevlar :cool2:

Thanks, I figured you had a hand in that. I need to take better pictures. The DASA head and cylinder have been polished, so has the the chamber and the resonator pipe.

yea, that rickter is so sweet!!! me and lefty held aaron up for awhile admiring it....

and i wish i could have made the lsfr this year, damn doctor cut me open right before the ride and i didnt think i was gonna heal up in time. the cut ended up closing up in time but not soon enough to make plans and get the money for it, so had to settle for wakes off my dads mb b-52, they were big enough to break 3 motor mounts so its probly best i didnt hit any surf. lol

if i was in the market for a hull, i'd have a hard choice between a bob and a stunt, the bob is very well priced in my opinion, but i have more time than money, so i would almost be willing to finish up the hull(cosmetic) if it saved me some cash, what scares me is the pump alignment problem waternut mentioned, that i would have a hard time handling. and everybody talks about the price on the stunt but i cant ever find a $ amount on it, im just assuming it is cheaper than the bob, DK is very up front about the price of the BOB and i like that, gives me an idea of what to shoot for when i get into the market someday.

A few guys at the Alex City Invasion rode the 300SX conversion ski Saturday, while its only running a 650 engine I believe everyone was in agreement that it was a seriously fun little ski, I don't know why more people are not going this route, oh well more 300SX parts for the rest of us I suppose.
