Welcome to the club Shawn!! Nice choice! Did you go with gas or diesel?

After weeks of thought and mental torment, I decided I NEEDED an extended van. This automatically KO'd GMC....as there rediculious wheelbase was just too much of a PIA to drive. I would not touch a ford 6.0L diesel, so I ended up going gas. I have another 35+mpg car, so not too worried about the vans fuel costs. Hell the jeep only averaged 13.5...LOL (0% interest also payed a roll in my decision)

I will do a build thread when I pick it up and get started. I have so many crazy ideas...lol Van is @ quigley now, delivery week of the 8th!!

I always thought the 4x4 vans were factory. Halliburton has a bunch of them at their Williamsport shop with big tires and heavy duty steel bumpers for hauling people.

Its a dealer option you can get when you buy the van. But quigley in PA actually does the work. Its fully warrented by Ford (or GM) and any dealer will service the 4x4 system.

If these got good gas mileage they would be the solution to a problem that torments me on a daily basis. I'm too picky. I want something that can pull 2 or 3 skis, is fun to drive, and is good on gas.

I think the solution to my problem is a WRX wagon...

Awesome vans though, I've never seen anything like them.

Shawn, now there's no excuse to ride with the crew this season! Good luck with it!

My van is working out great too, gotta love the 4WD. I might need the trak kit this week though (JK). Saw this white one in Yellowstone 2 yr ago....It was BAD! I stopped & Bs'd with the owner, he said the traks were a extra 40k! :eek5:

I plan on buying the 4x4/ski permit down there this year, so I can finally rip with you guys. 40k for the trak kit!!!!! DAMN!

The rails are PVC with uni-strut hidden inside and they ride on strut trollies. The trollies are mounted to some custom fabbed aluminum mounting/pivot brackets. This setup lets the ski slide in and out with a finger tip touch and then the whole rail setup tilts down to align with my beach cart. It carries both of my FX-1s with ease. Once the skis are slid into the van, there's urethane nose pin brackets with quick release pins to secure the skis. The nose pin brackets are mounted to an aluminum cargo box I used in place of the bench seat. I mimic'd the factory bench seat mounting brackets to secure the box, so it can be removed in about 30 secs and the bench can be put back in if needed.

You are very ingenious.....Kudos bro!

Some bad a$$ set ups on here. Although I don't see one of these in my immediate future you never know, I can definately see myself cruising down Baja in a 4x4 ski toteing van conversion. This is one reason I love the X so much. A lot of innovative thinkers who share there good ideas with others. Great job guys.

What front axle do they install? an older ford driver drop hi-pinion 44, or one of the twin beams used in the 80s - 90s? I'm assuming if they stick with coil springs up front they have to be using the twin beams....?
